Interesting idea for a projector in the living room on a budget(with sunlight)
Sony makes a type of screen called Dynaclear. It's a black screen material that completly resists ambient light with projectors. Imagine an image with a perfect/near perfect black level with the afternoon sun outside undrawn shades.
Dynaclear The drawbacks are that the only size Sony makes is only 80in diag(good side of that is the screen costs only $399). Also from user reports it's flimsy and cheaply made, so once you set it up, you need to leave it alone. This screen was actually designed with the Sony AW15(which I have) and AW10 in mind, budget projectors. It works with any projector, but Sony offers a combo purchase of these with the screen, I'll vouch for the AW15, it's a helluvan image for the money. Also at a 2.1 peak gain, and for 80in the AW15 needs to be 7.8 to 12.7ft back, at the farthest back you get 30 ft lamberts, closest you get 43, I'm getting about 8 FL on my 147in screen from that projector. Not for everyone obviously, but I think it's pretty cool. When we get the JVC RS1 or equivelent projector, I'm thinking of getting this screen and setting the Sony up downstairs. Hate to give away or take a loss on selling a nice little projector like that, and we were thinking of a flat panel TV for downstairs anyway. ![]() ![]() Good way to get an 80in screen for under 2k in the living room.

Interesting. Could you...say...pick up 4 of them and cut and paste to your hearts content making the screen size you want? I realize it would be a challenge to make them all fit together seamlessly, but hey...bigger screen, right?
