Little DLP Lamp Question
Why can't manufacturers produce LED lamps tailored to work with legacy non-LED DLP sets? Just curious, especially considering certain lamps can be used on multiple models. I'd imagine if could be done if they wished.

Are you talking about extended-life lamps or LED DLP that prevents rainbow effect. The former might be possible but the latter would not as its a significantly different hardware setup than lamp DLP.

To expand on what Ruined posted, a standard DLP TV has a color wheel to get the colors, hence the rainbow effect. An LED DLP has no color wheel, so it would not be possible to retrofit that into an earlier generation DLP set. If they used white LEDs, then maybe...

Well, good news for me! I just had my bulb replaced for free! - among other things
About 3 weeks ago, I came home, turned on the tv and the picture was flickering, like you was trying to watch it with your eyes opening and closing really fast. I flipped through the channels and it was doing it on everything, so then I fired up the PS3 and it was doing that same thing as well. Two different sources and two inputs, so it has to be the tv. I called sammy and they had me unplug the set for a minute or two, to kind of reset it. It fixed the problem, but sammy said that it's a temp. fix, so they'll send a tech out to fix it. The tech arrived today and he replaced the whole DLP Light engine and the input control box. So right now I have a brand new tv so to speak. Everything got replaced except the screen and cabinet. This wasn't a common problem and really wouldn't be able to pinpoint the problem, so he replaced everything. I thought that was pretty cool. ![]()

My experience with Toshiba technical support has been first rate. They are very fast to respond and everything went very smoothly.

My RCA DLP tv just went on me. It was making a horrible whirling sound when starting up and finally no picture. Any ideas on what it could be? I bought a new lamp and am waiting for it to come in. I hope it's only the lamp. I can't afford much else.
