Good News? Bad News? No New? For Blu-Ray...

What do you think?

Seems like they are sleeping with the enemy a little to me.

Not really. Toshiba is a semiconductor leader while Sony is not. Toshiba was involved in the creation of the processor, and Sony doesn't want to be bogged down in the intricacies of semiconductor development, and would rather sell off that production line to Toshiba, who is a leader in that industry. The sell helps put money into Sony, and it will help Toshiba insure it gets orders from Sony for the ps3 chips.

Pretty sure Toshiba is also involved in nuclear technology as well, so yeah, they make tons of greenbacks.

Not to mention, the Cell processor is an ideal candidate for an all-in-one CPU for an HD DVD player. While it is too weak in graphics operations to be used by itself in a videogame console, for the 2D overlays and whatnot offered by HDi this chip should offer more than enough power.
