Walmart + HD DVD promotional alliance official.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcfpJDcmq5M

And there is the proof.

So, in terms of retailer promotional alliances, it looks to be like this for Q4/xmas:

HD DVD - Walmart/Sam's Club, K-Mart/Sears
Blu-Ray - Target/BJ's

Note that all of them seem to be selling software for both sides, but some are pushing one format over the other in terms of players.

From like 6 months ago, maybe, when there were rumors about it. The ones open now are about a specific price deal on an HD-A2, not about an actual promotional alliance as seen in this commercial. Walmart & Toshiba are officially actively promoting the HD DVD format. That is big news IMO.

Alliance is a bit of a stretch. The hd-a2 is at a rock bottom price, and Walmart is advertising it to see if it sells. Are you saying that this will be the permanent price for entry Toshibas from now on at Walmart? If not, then this is simply a sale that is being advertised, and there are already multiple threads up about it.

Watch the YouTube commercial linked above. It is not advertising a specific sale or specific price, just that it will have a low price. It is advertising the HD-A2 for XMAS. From my understanding the HD-A2 will permanently be $198 at Walmart stores throughout the holiday season and at times will drop to $99 for one-day-only sales like we are seeing tomorrow. Walmart is pushing Toshiba HD DVD players in general, not just this one sale -again, watch the commercial... it could very well apply to an HD-A3 too if HD-A2 stock runs out.

Also, if we believe the story leaked a while back, WalMart bought 2 million HD DVD players at $50/ea. If that was the HD-A2, that would allow them to price the HD-A2 at $99 and still make a $50 profit on each one sold.

Fine if you want to keep this thread going, okay. It just seems redundant to me, based on all the other threads about the hda2 being $198 or lower, and the threads about the $99 player for one day. I've seen the ad. It's not saying anything different than what is being talked about in the other threads, that's all.

Again, what is different is that it is NOT specifically advertising this Friday sale.

Its not saying, come to Walmart tomorrow only and get an HD-A2 for $99.

What it is saying, is come to Walmart and we'll sell you a Toshiba HD DVD player (this could obviously refer to HD-A2 or HD-A3) cheap for an XMAS gift. It is not prompting people that this would only last for one day, which means that Walmart will be selling Toshiba HD DVD players cheaply for the entire holiday season.

Ruined, your posts seem to be moving rapidly from advocacy to promotion.

This forum is not to be used for the promotion of any particular product or technolgy, it's for the discussion about such products or technologies.

Please keep this distinction in mind as you post.

Thanks.
