I now own a 1080P player

Well after months of fence sitting I finally broke down and purchased a DVD player that can play 1080P movies.

I couldn’t take it any longer, walking past all those 60 inch displays at my local Future Shop with the stunning picture and great sound used to make me weak in the knees.

I kept telling myself, just wait a little longer. Lets see which way this studio swings or which piece of gossip is true or false. I was driving myself crazy.

Hopefully my choice won’t sneak up and bite me in the ass in 12 months.

Studios be dammed. I made my choice.

Why the cliffhanger? What did you pick?

Anyway, good luck with your investment no matter what it was

Picked up the new Panny BD30.

Great player, I'm really happy with it. The load times are really fast at around 10 -15 seconds.

But why they deided to install a very bright aqua/green light top center on the front panel is beyond me. I've already covered it with a piece of black electrical tape.

Hey panasonic, it's supposed to be blue You know as in BLU ray

I know, I know.... relax. But stuff like this bugs the hell out of me.

I might be wrong, but I think's there's a menu setting to disable that light.

Future Shop has a Panasonic BD player!?!

Congrats.

I dunno if there is a dimmer option on that model. Samsung's first BD player was insanely lit with no dimmer. I mean the whole room lit up blue.

The manual explains how to dim the display, but not that little light?
Maybe I missed it?

Thanks for the kind word guys.

I had 15 movies sitting on my shelf and no player. When my friend called me to say the BD30 had arrived I was there the next day.

Kind words my ass! I still don't know what the hell you bought.

Did you go blu ray? I assume you did. If so, red is like blood. I will spill yours!

HAW!

Congrats dude.

From HighDefDigest's review:

Fortunately, the LED can be dimmed in the player's Setup menu, and the brighter light can be turned off with the setting labeled "SD Card LED Control".

You kill me Iggy

Yeah I found the the screen to turn it off. I really just wanted to dim it but this will do.
I stand by my original statement. The light is NOT blue.

I've read someplace that people feel the 30 is a bad upconverting player but I disagree. I played Super Speedway and the jaggies I used to get from the seats as the the cars passed infront of them are gone.

but have you compared it to a stand-alone SD upconverting player?

I bought one of these players and returned it. Do you see the dreaded Chroma Upscaling Error? Did Panasonic release a firmware upgrade to fix this issue? Please give your results on this.
