Just got the A30 HDDVD player!

I was blown away with the picture quality of the dvds! The difference between standard dvd and HD is noticable. However after I hooked up the HDMI cable to the player and went through the setup on the A30, I get the picture, but not the sound. I have tried everything. What do you all think the problem is?

My tv set is a RCA 55inch 720/1080i purchased in 2003!

How is the sound hooked up? Optical? Its possible your RCA TV does not support sound via HDMI. If not, just run some RCA cables from the stereo RCA out on the back of the HD-A30 to the audio input corresponding to the HDMI jack.

Well, I had to buy a DVI HDMI adapter so the HDMI cable would work. I have no idea if it supports HDMI to be honest. If HDMI cables do not work for the television, what is my alternative?

Then sound is not supported through the HDMI cable. Do as Ruined suggested and run audio cables to the tv.

Yes you are right. Audio cables from my old DVD worked fine. However I was under the impression HDMI cable was both audio and video, that is what I was told at the store. Thanks you all. Happy viewing!
