Plissken99 JVC RS1 Questionnaire Thread

Here we ask the man, the legend and quite frankly the newfound owner of a high end PJ questions.! I post this with respect and admiration. Ok, and some jealousness!

Since I posted this first, I get to ask first. HAW!

1) Pliss’ , is the difference between 720P and 1080P BIG? How much better is it to you? Meaning, is it like going from svid to component? Or better? Or what?

2) Black is beautiful baby! How are blacks and the depth of blacks?

3) I don’t have a brother. Can I be yours? If so, PM me your address. Thanks ‘Bro’ !!!

Hehehe!

Iggy

Ok even I'm cheesed out by this, but what the hell?

1. Hell yes! With front projectors it's the only way to go. No longer is there a screendoor effect(unless your 2ft from the screen), and the image is all around sharper. It's like going from composite to component at my screen size. At Best Buy, I can start seeing the 1080p difference at 42in screens, at 50in it becomes obvious even to most customers.

2. Well I haven't logged a great deal of hours with it yet, but so far the CRT is finally back when it comes to black! The only time I see light in black areas is when the movie/show transitions to black, watching stuff it's perfect or damn near perfect. The depth of blacks are outstanding, when black suit Spidey is hiding in the shadows from Sandman in Spidey 3, you can just barely see him in the blackness! Shadow detail even on the Sony is a big improvement over CRT, thats because of the added brightness of the display(the devils face in Ghostrider when he first appears to Johnny, on my CRT his face was a black void, on the RS1, his face is clearly visible).

3. You already are. ...

How is the color on the RS1? I have heard some complaints from coworkers about not being able to fix the color problems. I never got to talk to them tho, so don't know the exact issues.

Thats one thing that has me scratching my head(sad as it was the one missgiving i had about getting this one). I calibrated the color with Video Essentials(got it perfect using the blue filter), and have eyeballed it quite a bit, and I don't see these over-saturated colors some people bitch about on AVS. The fleshtones seem dead on, nothing unnatural looking. Actually the color is outstanding. Perhaps it won't totally calibrate to strict ISF standards and that bugs only the most obsessive people.

True I haven't watched much yet, but I see nothing to complain about thus far.

Does the RS1 do 120hertz (if not, what 1080p PJ's do?)

I would imagine it does, but I know the Sony SXRD does.

How about some durability "drop test" experiments?

Not natively, if you feed the projector a 1080p24 signal it does. And it has the correct refresh rate to do it without frame droppage.

The reason I asked is a co-worker wants to upgrade and the goal is 3D. He said he needs a pj that does 120hz so the attached glasses contraption can sync correctly and provide the 3D image without flicker.

It was busy today and I didn't have a chance to really get down and dirty with exactly what was going on, but he's got a HTPC and $50 glasses that will do this with certain dvd's but the pj's refresh rate of 120hz (and 1080p) is critical to his plan.
