hd a2 audio problems

Ok a while back i posted about this in another thread but i am still having problems. I have my audio receiver hooked up with optical cord to the player. I have the settings set right by the instructions, but the indicator light on the display says 2ch instead of multi. If it is an HD DVD then it says multi. I want all things to be in 5.1, so not sure what is wrong

So just so I make sure I understand you, only your SD-DVD's are coming through as 2 channel? Do you have the most recent firmware upgrades for the player as well?

yeah i do have the firmware update. so i am really unsure what is going on. Could it be that the display on the hd dvd player says 2 ch but my receiver is decoding properly?

Well that would be easy to discern - Do you have Five Channels hooked up to your receiver? Are you getting sound out of each one?

ok here is a better question. If any of you own and a2 and are using optical output to a reciever that does not have hdmi, what does your little display window on the tosh say and how do you have it set up

Do you have the HD-A2's SPDIF setting set to "Bitstream" ?

Also, can you be more clear on exactly what your problem is?

ok, here is the problem. I do have it set to bitstream. When an hd dvd is being played, the little display window on the player has the multi lit up to indicate multi channel. If it is regular dvd, it says 2 ch, not multi, but shouldn't it be multi since they are at least 5.1?

If you get 5.1 when it's 5.1 and 2.0 when it's 2.0 (or whatever configuration) with HD DVDs and DVDs, I won't sweat over whatever the tiny indicator says.

I agree with Seh, if your receiver is indicating 5.1, that is what its getting. The indicator on the player may only work with HD DVDs.

Which brings us back to my initial question. Are you getting 5.1 from HD-DVDs and SD-DVDs. If so, then, as said by others, who cares what the display says.
