Upconvert DVD Player Question...
Hey everybody and Happy Holidays. I have a 55" Sony 720p Television and we get HD stations but not all b/c our Cable in NJ sucks. However, I just bought a UPCONVERT DVD PLAYER b/c I am still waiting for the format war to end. That being said, does the setup on the Upconvert DVD player have to be set at 1080 or do I just leave it at 720? Does it make a difference in the picture? So basically the TV is 720 and they told me at Best Buy that the UPCONVERT makes the picture look more HD and closer to the HD "look." So is there some type of menu or setup thing I have to do? Do I just leave it as is or on the menu (there is a menu w/ the listings 480/720/1080), do I change the setting to 1080 for a superior picture? Thanks in advance...

If your display is native 720p and you feed it a 1080i image even if it accepts it, it wont look as good as it does at 720. You will always get a better picture on your displays native resolution.

I imagine it does. However there is a noticable difference on my new 720p LG when feeding it a 1080i picture. It supports 1080i by the way. In this case the 1080i picture is the xbox 360 dash board and games. Especially in the dash the text doesn't look as sharp and nothing really looks as good as it does in 720p. Don't know if mayb e the down convert just isn't as good as it should be but I've had friends with Samsung and Hitachi 720p displays say the same thing.

Possible. Could be caused by the poor ability of the TV. It is always best to feed a matching input anyway. Sounds like 720p it is.
