Pick my new TV... FOR A PRIZE!

Ok, here is the deal... I am getting a new TV on about the 14th of this month, so just under 2 weeks... I am going to let YOU choose the TV.

Why do you want to, other than showing off your tech knowledge? Because the person who makes the best suggestion, the most persuasive one, the one I go with, is the person who will get a completely free movie of their choice mailed to them, be it Blu Ray or HD DVD or standard old DVD (no box sets or whatnot, one movie and that's it).

Parameters:
High 30's to mid 40's in size...
I'd like to spend $1,000 or $1,500, but can go to $2,000 or even a little higher, if it's obvious why I am doing it.
I would rather get it in a store than online, Best Buy preffered for the reward zone points

Things important to me:
3 HDMI slots
Full 1080p
More concerned about games than movies
Easy to move

Things not important to me:
Brand name
Super high sound quality
Silly bells and whistles

GO TO TOWN!

Sony Bravia XBR KDL-40XBR4 40" 1080p LCD HDTV

$2k, 3x hdmi, 120hz (can display 24fps native), HDMI 1.3, matte screen/no glare, great deinterlacing engine (though not as good as Reon's for SD DVD)
This is the flatpanel (easiest to move) version of my 60" LCOS RPTV. This flatpanel can be moved by one person and put in a car for transport. Everyone I know who has bought from this series has loved it.
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bravia-KD...9239363&sr=8-1

Or, go to ebay.com and buy a 10% off Circuit City coupon and buy one of these off CircuitCity.com with the coupon for a similar price.
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-...oductDetail.do

Remember if you need to you can return circuitcity.com to the store just like it was purchased in the store, although some of the ebay coupons can be used in store too. Not to mention that if you sign up for or use a Circuit City card to buy it, you get free financing for 6 mos or something like that. Best Buy has it for the same price, though its tougher to find 10% off coupons on eBay for best buy. If you got one though, obviously go for it there.

ALSO:
Has a game mode setting for least amount of input lag when gaming that can be set on your gaming inputs; a huge plus for games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band,DDR, etc. Tons of other settings too, you can basically ISF the set yourself without having to touch a service menu.

But what you will like most of all is that the User Interface is similar to PS3's

And re: the REGZA. My dad has one and it is an awesome deal for the price, but it can't match the Sony in video quality. It would then become a tradeoff, would you rather have bigger size (40 vs 46) or better quality?

Its 1080p, Game Mode setting, 3 HDMI, 120hz and is Easy to move. Plus it can be bought from Best Buy

Crap thats what I was gonna say!

Guess I'll stick with the big brother of my LG 42 inch.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=09-53346537-2

The LGs have a 5 ms response as opposed to the 8 that alot of others do. I'm very happy with my 42 but it only has 2 HDMIs but this 47 has 3 and I know someone who has it and it looks great even with his PS 3 hooked up to it.

Given the high regard the SXRD sets have, I would suggest one of those. The 60A3000 has many raves about it. You don't say anything about weather it is supposed to be Flat Pannel or projection, but from your discription, it sounds like you want an LCD.

Or, you could go the FP route and have as large a pic as your wall can handle

I can vouch that the 60A3000 is an awesome set... Uses the same video engine as the 40" LCD I recommended above! It needs 2 people to move, though, and a truck or van of some sort given its size.

Let me tell ya, I work in Best Buy, and stare at these things all day. The best TV I have seen thats fits your bill, is the 40" Samsung LN-T4069F. With a 20,000:1 contrast, it almost matches the 71 series TVs, but I find it superior to them in other ways.

First off, on the 71 series, you have a glossy screen, which just bugs me. Also the 120hz auto motion deal seems to work better on the 4069. It's not as dramatic/fake feeling, and I don't see the motion artifacts I do on the 71 series TVs. Best Buy has it on sale for $1679, if I were buying a flat panal, it would be my first choice.

I want the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles movie on Blu Ray please.

This number is about as useful as the $500 receivers that claim they have 2500 watts of power.

It is an inflated number using the dynamic iris at full blast, which aside from looking completely unrealistic (and way off from ISF standards) also burns off your eyeballs with certain material (Like Virtua Fighter 5's already bright island stages for instance). Of course, it is largely a function of how much processing the manuf allows you to amp up the signal with.

Samsung fails to report the true contrast ratio of this set, which would be a more useful statistic. For the record, the Sony I recommended above has a true contrast ratio of 2000:1.

True enough indeed, but the blacks are as black as can be. Samsungs in general have a much richer image than Sony LCDs. The RPTVs though, Sony rules that roost, the Samsungs are brighter, but lack detail.

The TV derb is mentioning should be the Sharp Aquos LC-46D92U (not sure if it'll fit in your price range though), my friend has the 52" version and it is astounding how good it is for an lcd. It would be probably better than the Sony (haven't seen that Sony so can't say for sure). It's got the 120hz processing, a 4ms response time which helps when gaming, it's got a special backlight system which improves its colour depth, it's very bright (450 cm/m2) so can be used in almost any room, and has 3 hdmi, 2 component, and 1 dvi-i input - all 1080p. Oh and it's got a native 3000:1 contrast ratio (dynamic is 15000:1).
That would be my pick.

You can get the Samsung LN-T4665F for 1499 online and though it only has two HDMI's. I would just suggest an HDMI switch for 30 bucks online and save the money on the price difference for a 3 input TV.

My choice would be the Toshiba 42LZ196. Its 42" (what you are looking for), has 2 HDMI inputs (switcher again), and is Full 1080p. You can get it for $1499 (probably in some stores too).

Best I can do since most the TV's I would chose have been spoken for.

Are you sure? On the BB site it lists 3 HDMI inputs in the specifications. And yeah I'm sure it can be found cheaper than us(99% of the time it can lol).

i was looking in the 1500 range, should have gone higher. now a days, i would go with a plasma. Their life has been greatly improved so it doesnt have too many negatives anymore, except for price. I don't know how comfortable i would be with a 1080p $2000 plasma.

Here's a good sub $2000 option.

LG - 47" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV - 47LC7DF

This has gotten pretty good reviews and it sells for $1999, though you can find it on sale, even at bestbuy for $1799

I'm not as impresed by plasmas as LCDs. Consistently when placed side by side, plasmas are darker and softer than LCD, IMO.

Image retention + they degrade in quality over time + the only ones signficantly better than LCD (Pioneer top of the line) are much more expensive.

Right now Ruined's suggestion seems like a good bet, somewhat because I like Sony products, but mostly because it just seems like a super high quality TV for the price, and I think Best Buy has it in-store for $1999...

Plissken would be in 2nd at the moment...

Any other suggestions or pushes for your selection are welcome, there's 5 or so days to go.

Sony or Samsung, you can't go wrong either way, just be sure you see them before you buy. If possible try to get an employee to set up and HD-DVD or Blu Ray on them, for the best effect.

I shall give another nudge for my tv selection. Like Plissken said though "get them to sewtup a Blu-ray/HD-DVD to demo" Personally what really wowed me with the tv was them playing Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl on Blu-ray with that smooth motion thing going. My god i heard people say it was like you could actually reach out and touch themas if they were there. I thought it was a stupid thing to say about a movie/tv but sure enough they were right.
