Yep sure was, Still I think if people buy this item now there fools. Does this ring as fire sale 2 you? They should just stop making it and come out with a blu-ray addon at a good price.

Sooner or later all movies exclusive to HD-DVD will come out on Blu-ray too when HD-DVD goes belly up so I would see no reason to waste any money on any HD-DVD player or such add on unless it was great for upconverting standard DVD , played DVDs from all Regions and played SA-CD via HDMI but since that last one is a Sony format it won't . lol

I think I agree since for $20 bucks more an outstanding upconverting player from Toshi can be had.

I bought one because I have about 60 hd-dvds that will benefit from the hd-a35, and because it is supposed to be a good upconverter. I will still buy occasional hd-dvds because I won't want to wait, but a majority of my movies are on blu-ray and will continue to be.

Hey, an inexpensive PC compatible HD-DVD drive, and 6 movies for $80? Man, that's a great deal, really.

Bummer! My hd-a35 had issues with skipping. I have returned it to get a replacement. Hopefully this new one works. It seemed it was skipping near the same mark on all hd-dvds, at the 1:20 mark. Strange. It had the latest firmware, so I think it was a player defect.

Odd for it to be at a specific time. Must be something with the laser position at that time.

Yeah, I thought so too. It didn't have a problem with Eastern Promises though. Hmm...

I got my new hd-a35 in, and so far, it played flawlessly through the hd-dvd I used as a control disc. It did pause once on an sd-dvd, but it never happened again, so it might have been a thing with the clunky fast forward and rewind commands that are problematic for hd-dvd players. I am hoping this player turns out to have no problems at all.

I have kept it on the 1.3 firmware, for fear that problems might be with the 2.0 firmware. If things get worse for some reason, then I might update the firmware to 2.0, but I will keep it where it is for now.

I would get the latest ISO firmware file from Toshiba & burn a couple copies on disc. I don't know what is the latest firmware # out for that player but better to be safe.

Toshiba has not shown a great track record at sending me those ISO firmware files. They didn't send me one for my hd-a2 or my hd-a35 (the first one I had). I don't trust them to actually hold up their end of the bargain. The download from my ethernet port seems to work well with the hd-a35. I could never get my hd-a2 to connect.

Right now I have watched 2 hd-dvds and the 1.3 firmware is holding up. If I ever need to upgrade to 2.0, I can just connect via the ethernet port. But for now, I will stick with the firmware that seemed to have the least amount of problems.
