Calibrating For Blu-ray

Since one must calibrate from player to player, and since there’s no DVE for Blu and I can’t trust the SD settings, can anyone recommend another tool or option for Blu-ray calibration?

I usually calibrate by feel after my initial DVE tests, but having no color bars, contrast examples, etc. is a pain.

Perhaps there's a film that has a particular "normal" color palette that someone could recommend.

Alien vs Predator has a calibration option similar to what some DVD's like star wars had.

Their website explicitly states that this is NOT a calibration disc, but rather a test disc for system capabilities. I came very, very close to ordering this for calibration purposes; however, it's clearly not what it's intended for.

The blu-ray DVE is released in March, according to Amazon. A bit far off, but it's reasonably priced (below $20).

You can use the "Easter Egg" option on the Sony Blu-ray movies. Just hit the numbers that spell out SONY and it will bring up the caliberation screen stuff. How you use it i don't know

Yeah, I've read that but never tried it. I have gone on AVS and just messed around with the setting users give until I find one I like.

I ended up doing it the old fashioned way.

I spent about an hour and a half adjusting (wearing my chic blue-filter glasses) and finally got the image where I want it.

P.S. Bob, does the "SONY" trick work for all BD players or just Sony players? Is it on the disc or in the player?

On the discs of course. The players are profile 1.0 and thus have no flash memory such things could be stored.

After seeing all of the loading screens for BD, the whole format stinks of video games and hula hoops!

Wait for the PS3 180GB model. It does your homework while you play games & watch Blu-Ray's because of the cell. IBM - Solutions for Life
