Onkyo 605 Problem
Today, while watching a show on DVD, my 605 just shut itself off. I turned it back on and it did it again a few minutes later. I felt the unit and it is no warmer then normal. When it shuts itself off, The standby light blinks (red light). Anyone know what this is?

Well this issue keeps popping up and what I noticed is it is when I go above 55 on my volume it tends to happen, below that it doesn't shut itself off. I am going to pull the receiver out and rewire all the speakers tonight, but I am beginning to worry I am going to have to send it in.

Good to hear. I would rather have it be that. I checked them after the first time, but not thoroughly. Hope you are right.

![]() It is very easy to cross speaker wire... A single thin strand of copper that is touching a nearby terminal will cause a short and shutdown when the volume is turned up.

Thanks for the heads up ruined. What i found out is one of my fronts speaker wire had come loose. I have to move my left front quite a bit because my 360 is in the little cabinet door to the right of it (see image below), so I move it to get the 360s power supply out. Well, the pos. was still connected, but the negative had come loose. The fronts have high and low gain inputs (even though I dont use them) and the neg. speaker wire was hitting one of the plates. Thus, as Ruined said, it was shorting out at high volume. Thanks man.

I can imagine. I would luckily still be in the warranty, but it would have been a pain to move my old receiver with no active center channel back down here and move out all the HDMI audio hookups and switch them back to toslink or dig. coax.
