HD Player upcon of SD DVD's vs. non HD player upcon.

After reading some recent replies stating HD players upcon of SD material is not as good as SD upcon players, I ask.....who's got the upper video hand in upcon?

Toshi HD players? PS3? HDAO? SD upcon players?

I've tested an Oppo SD-DVD player, a Sharp BD player and my HDA1 HD DVD player. The A1, at least to my eyes, looks the best.

In my own little test, my SD Upconvert has a better picture then my HD-A2 or my PS3

If you can get your hands on a Toshiba HD-XA2 / Onkyo DV-HD805, they are the best upconverters out there. The new Denon 3800 BD player may actually be better though it will cost $1500 more.

Of course, all of the above may be relegated old technology with the new "Super Upconverters" coming out later this year.

Oh, and out of the Oppo 971H, PS3, HDA1, HDA2, the XA2 blows them all away for upconversion.

A lot of TV shows and classic movies can only be watched on dvd. I have been watching Hitchcock movies on dvd recently. Hearing dugpa rave about them had me interested.

Yet, they should all be released in HD like Heroes and Smallville and Lost
