It will, but I assume you have a fixed pixel 720p display, so you'll probably want to set it at 720p.

well, the tv we got was the samsung 4671 46 inch That is the bedroom tv

but the ps3 will be used there and on the living room tv, which is the one that is 720 p 1080i. It is a few years old but still works great.

Hmmm. If I remember correctly (that will be a miracle), Moog debated the 1080i vs. 720p stuff concerning the PS3. I think for the most part it was generally accepted that if your set is 'native' 720p then that is best for the actual game, but for certain content (and given your tv's scaler) 1080i was better. Content being the extras, download stuff.

I probably got that all f-ed up. If I can find the thread, I'll link it.

When I had the HD-A1 running, I always output the video at 1080i

It just looks better.

When I had my HD-D1 set up, it was outputting 1080i. IMHO, sending out the software ( Game, HD DVD, Blu Ray Disc, whatever ) at the encoded video scan rate, it was better due to the fact of less conversions. More conversions = less quality.

So, find out what the software was encoded in, and send THAT to the display.

again, IMHO
