I bought a CRT HD rear projection yesterday.
I scored a Toshiba 46H83 yesterday for just under 500 bucks. Did the convergence a couple times and the set looks great. Shaw HD looks decent and DVDs look great with XboxMediaCentre. I can not describe how great playing 360 was on it.
It was an "upgrade" from our Sony 30" Trinitron, and by upgrade, I mean only size wise. The Sony kicks ass, but it was a bit small and this set was a killer deal. But since I bought this set, I have dibs on the Sony. I shall post pictures shortly, once I clean up the basement.

If you do a calibration, I think wou will find that CRT does indeed kick ass. It is, IMHO, the best display possible. It may not do 1080P ( at least, not the RPTVs, ) but it at 1080I, and it's better black levels, and colors...beat out the digital tech out there. It's major issue is, it takes a LONG time to make it look that good, and requires consistant maintenence. It reminds me of a supercar, or superbike...
I am hoping to build a house that has a big enough theater room so I can do a 9" CRT stack. Ahh, dreams ![]() j

Yeah, stacked 9"ers would be great, but I'm still living at home, so that won't fly.
But I am going to do a 56 point convergence tonight or tomorrow, then focus and hopefully reduce the overscan. But I am defiantly ordering the service manual and will be lining the inside with blackout material, and cleaning the lenses. I am way to scared to even think of touching the first surface mirror. Oh yeah, I am going to disable the VSM hardware, so that it can never function again. It did pass the DVE test OK... Way way way better then the 32" Toshiba in my room. Speaking of that piece of shit, I have to get rid of that, put the Trinitron in there. ![]()
