burn in and tv logos on rptv

Anyway, i have had my tosh in the living room for a few years and love the set, but have always been paranoid about burn in, both from the wider movies and especially from channel bugs in the corners and of course video games. I just got a big upgrade to time warner hd dvr and have access to hdtv programming for the first time. Those of you who have had an rptv or have one, did you ever get burn in from watching hd abc, cbs, etc. I kind of think that almost all the logos now seem to be see through more, so I am leaning towards it not being a big deal, but wanted to make sure. Ihave the ps3 out here as well, but have heard you really can't play games on an rptv becasue of health bars, etc. We did get a smaller lcd tv for the bedroom, but this is the main family tv for now

If it's an older CRT RPTV then you should be concerned about burn in...however, the newer LCD, DLP and LCOS (SRCD) RPTV's are pretty much immune.

To a certain degree, yes. I have seen Image Retention in both LCD and Plasma. I know that with Plasma, you can reverse Image Retention. I don't know if the same is possible with LCD. The only way to fix Image Retention on a CRD projection, weather it's RP, ro FP, is to replace the CRTs. The good news is, you can replace them one at a time. The bad news is, even that is, pricing is still kind of high. So, say I have a 9" CRT projector ( I hope to have two. ) One of CRTs for each projector is about a grand. So, multiply that by three, that equals six grand just for replacement CRTs.

So, Figure, about $7500 for each Projector, and maybe $800 for each tube, not, then the lenses...

Ease of setup, and little or no timely maintenence, and DLP/LCD/SXRD become pretty attractive. so long as you can live with the draw backs, like Rainbow, or some screendoor, or black levels, or lack there of.

There is one big problem with CRT, besides the work. There are no HDMI, or DVI inputs. Makes Blu Ray and HD DVD a bit of a pain to use...

I've owned multiple CRT RPTVs and never had any burnin problems. This includs after leaving 18 Wheeler Pro Tricker's static start screen on for a full weekend accidently, and normal use in addition to occasional accidents like that. Although, I don't watch TV really, just movies and game.

As long as you have the contrast at ~40% or less and don't watch a channel with a ticker/logo all day long, you'll probably be safe. There is always the risk, but it is rare in my occasion. I've only seen burnin once in all my years of CRT monitors and RPTVs I've owned, and it was with a junky Princeton monitor my dad bought at Costco - it got his Windows desktop burned into it as he had no screensaver.

I've got a Samsung plasma, which is probably the most prone to burn-in among plasma brands, and I've rarely had issues with logos on HD channels. Most of the channels now use a light-gray or transluscent white logo that has very little chance of getting burned in. I haven't even had image retention (IR) from any of these logos.

Things that worry me are scoreboards from sporting events like football/baseball/basketball games, as those tend to have high contrast and very bright colors, and I get IR from them all the time. But I just run the screenwash utilities on the plasma, and the IR is removed in about 15 minutes.

The only issue burn-in I have on my 57" Toshiba 57HX81 is a silhouette of Tera Patrick's body. I don't really consider that an issue, however.

Peace...

I haven't had any problems with my RPLCD HDTV for the 2 years i have had it for. CRT is a different story though as my friend has a nice radar and life bar from Halo 2 play burned into his screen. He says he doesn't see it that much but i see it all the time i'm watching a movie with him. Still i don't worry about my tv and it getting some sort of burn in at all.
