Blu Ray On Normal TV!!!

Is it worth watching a blu ray on a normal TV? Has any one tried it? How does it look. Does it just look like a DVD??

Never tried it, but I can't imagine it'd look any better than SD DVD aside from having less compression. 480 is 480 no matter how you slice it. One of my coworkers wants to try out a blu-ray disc with his PS3 though and I said I'd bring one over to try out. He only has a SD TV, so I guess I'll find out soon for sure what it looks like.

On a 480p EDTV plasma, Blu-Ray looks significantly better than DVD (as does OTA HDTV).
If the standard TV has the ability to accept HD over component, then Blu-Ray will look better than DVD - however, don't expect night and day (especially if the set is smaller than 32").

over either S-Video or Composite (the little yellow plug), I imagine it would be about the same as watching an HD DVD on a normal TV, which I checked out here when I first got my A1. There was basically so little amount of difference between SD and HD on a standard TV that few would notice.

I don't imagine a normal TV screen being big enough to really see a difference either.

Not sure why a person would spend $400 on a Blu-Ray player, but not spend $700-1000 for a HD set. It only makes sense to get the Blu-Ray player after getting the HDTV. Players and movies will get cheaper in the future, so why buy Blu-Ray now if you don't have the HDTV?

I would imagine some people bought the PS3 for gaming and might want to take the Blu Ray plunge but still only have a SD set. But I agree with getting a HDTV first and foremost before getting anything else.

I have my HD-A30 hooked up to the 60" Mits in the Rec Room for the kids, and as expected, it looks no better than the Sony DVD R, or the Apex that was there 480i is 480i weather it comes from an Apex, BR, or HD DVD.

The main gain would be the lack of MPEG2 artifacting, but its not worth the cost for that alone.
