Sony/Panasonic - Which to go for?

Hi guys,
Me & 2 of my friends are planning to go for a Plasma TV. We have done some research & find some good reviews on the following models:

Sony FWD42PV1B 42" Plasma EDTV

852 x 480 Max Resolution
10000:1 Contrast Ratio
500nit(s) Brightness

Panasonic TH42PX80U 42" Plasma HDTV

720p resolution
15,000:1 contrast ratio
3 HDMI inputs
480Hz sub field drive

Wanted to know your thoughts about these two. Also if it is worth the money we are spending for it. Or if there are any difference Between EDTV and HDTV.

First thing first is that the Sony is not a HDTV, but the Panasonic one is. So right there Panasonic would be my choice to get. Plus they put out probably the best overall Plasma HDTVs out there.

Although for an extra $100 you can get this Toshiba Regza 1080p LCD Which i believe has received some great comments on quality from users on this forum.

Get the Panasonic. Sony hasn't made a plasma TV in two years (and that particular model is rather ancient). Panasonic makes the best plasmas in the world.

Well, for the price

I agree. If it is going to be between those two, get the panasonic. You WON'T be disapointed.

Now, if you can afford an extra $100, I say go for the Toshiba. Their Regza pannels have outstanding PQ. I'm probably going to get one this fall for the BR here...

Panasonic has been making the 42" Pioneer plasma panels for two years now, and will be taking over all their panels this year.

So, yes, Panasonic makes the best plasmas in the world. Regardless of price.

Funny you should mention that. Panasonic does NOT make the Elite pannels. Panasonic will start making the Elite panels to Pioneers specifications next year. You show me a Panasonic 50" plasma that looks as good as the Pro 110FD. I have seen them side by side. It's NOT going to happen.

All Pioneer 42" panels are manufactured by Panasonic, and have been for two years now. Pioneer uses different video circuitry, which creates a slight push toward green (whereas the Panasonic pushes toward red). After calibration, I can't tell the difference. Except that the Panasonic models are a lot cheaper.

Have you seen the 46"/50" 85U? It came out this week. Looks stunning.

I installed an 85 just last week. It looked good, no doubt. When I saw the Pro 110FD next to it, you could tell which one had the better blacks and colors. It was worth the extra money IMHO, and I am not a fan of flat panels...

This is WAY off topic tho, so if you want to continue to debate this, stat another thread.

Yeah, no question, the Panasonic. I don't even know why EDTVs are still around.
