Upcon + Upcon = ?

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to coherently explain my question, but say you have an Oppo DVD player that upconverts using the Anchor Bay chip. If you were to hook that up to, say, an Onkyo receiver that uses Reon, what would happen to the video?

Now, I know that you can choose for the Onkyo not to process the video, but can you choose for the DVD player to send a pure video signal for the Onkyo to handle?

Does that make sense?

you would do one of two things. Send the native signal from the player to the Onkyo, and have it upcon the image, or send the upcon image pass that through untouched to the screen. It will all come down to which one has better upcon to you as to which one you use.

But do most upcon players allow for a native signal to be sent? I've only owned one upcon player, and I never checked if the upconversion could be turned off.

Okay, so you can send the pure DVD signal.

Thanks.

Not all players allow it though, for example concerning Oppo I think it's the only player they make that allows for that.

So what would happen if you left both video processors on?

No, they don't, and this is also why a Pioneer BDP-51FD your best bet for a Blu-ray player this year.

Your Oppo sends 480i. This is good as DVD can be properly deinterlaced by the Reon in the 875.

But, what about 1080i Blu-ray? 30fps material is ALL 1080i on Blu-ray, 1080p30 is not in the Blu-ray spec! Panasonic BD30 bobs it, making it 1920x540.

The BDP-51FD has a mode that allows you to output the original source for all media - DVD, BD, whatever! So DVD is output at 480i, BD is output at 1080i or 1080p24... Your scaler does the rest, and no loss of resolution for DVD or interlaced BD
