Plasma Screen problem/question

Hey I'm a long time lurker. I've posted a few times here and there. I just have a question for you guys. Last night I bought a 42 inch panasonic plasma screen television. The guy at best buy said I should wait 24 hrs before using it. I realized when I got home that I wasn't sure if that was 24 hrs from setup or 24 hrs from when I bought it. I bought it last night but set it up this morning and haven't used it yet(which is killing me!) Also I had never heard about having to wait 24 hrs before you could use a plasma screen. I was just wondering if this was true what your thoughts were on this.

I have been looking all over the internet for some type of information about this but could not find one. I hope you guys could help. Thanks.

You can use it right away - unless you live at a peculiar altitude, or a very humid environment.

However, you should only view full-screen (16x9) video for the first 100 hours of use (no black bars on the side or top). Decrease the contrast right away (the factory default cranks it, and that can contribute to initial burn-in as well).

After that, you're good to go, and you won't get any burn-in - unless you force it (pausing a game for 6 hours, for instance).

My friend has a 42 hitachi plasma and he found a disk that runns a bunch of alternating patterns and colors and kinda weird things to "break in" a plasma. I'll email him and ask him what it is exactly. Maybe you can find it on the net or at a local shop.

I have set up LOTS of plasmas and never had any wait 24 hours pop up. I think this is one of those cases of the BBY guy talking shit. Don't worry about it...have fun!
