Sony BDP-S300 Lossless Audio??

On the actual unit, only Dolby Digital & dts logos are seen.

I've listened to Linear PCM tracks & Dolby TrueHD tracks. The LPCM titles display on the unit but the TrueHD ones are displayed a standard Dolby Digital. 3/2.1

Also to make things more confusing, my receiver bitstreams TrueHD when selected. I thought this second-gen player at least did TrueHD.

My receiver does not bitstream any advanced audio codecs.

According to http://www.idoblu.co.uk/page2%20Blu-ray%20Players.html

Your player should do TrueHD just fine. Not sure why it is showing something other than 5.1 or 7.1

Do you maybe need a firmware update?

Thanks for the link.

according to their chart, no the BDP-S300 doesn't do TrueHD.

I read on blu-ray.com that the TrueHD decoding was an unofficial benefit of the firmware update. Apparently, Sony doesn't acknowledge its existence.

I'm confused or just an idiot who doesn't know how to read a chart. I see a double celled column ....

nvm I am apparently unable to navigate a chart well. I was looking at the wrong row.

Ahh, thanks ganthc.

I have my audio settings set to "Auto"
Gots to change that to PCM to hear TrueHD.
Though this player does bitstream standard DD & it sounds much better than the PS3.......

I do have the latest firmware btw v3.90

Your post is confusing. Are you saying you're not getting TrueHD decoded in the player and passed, or you're not getting it to bitstream TrueHD. I'm pretty sure none of the Sony players out now can bitstream the advanced audio codecs. However, I know my BDP-S1 had a firmware update to decode TrueHD, and since the 300 is more or less the same player, I'm sure it got the same firmware update. But since it was not something the player did out of the box it would have no logo on the front for it.

Yep I was saying I was not getting TrueHD decoded in the player and passed because.......

..under audio settings I have the player set to "Auto" so what I heard was the TrueHD core bitstreamed.

-------------------

I find titles which only include lossy sound, sound better on the unit bitstreamed, well louder. The PS3 can't bitstream anything unless ya hook up a toslink so this standalone player is great for all the lossy titles on the format.

Cool, thanks. I've had the player only a few weeks now & the first thing I did was update to 3.90. I've been getting a few audio glitches so I may go ahead & give 3.95 a try.
