Pioneer BDP-51FD or BDP-05FD

I am looking to replace my Sony BDP-S350 due to the horrible low sound issue. I am curious what the consensus was regarding the Pioneer BDP-51FD or BDP-05FD? How much better is the 05FD or is the price difference all in the elite tag?

What low sound issue? I've got the 350 and have had no probs with it. Are you going through a surround system or through your TV?

I'd start off by reading this review:

REVIEW: Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu-ray Disc Player

I wouldn't be surprised if Ruined popped in here and gave you some more actual comparison info, but that link above will give you lots of info on the 51FD.

I am running audio through a Denon receiver. Audio on voices is way too low, I have to pump the volume all the way up in order to hear conversations but then turn the volume down if there is action. If I adjust the center channel volume, it helps but then it is too loud when watching tv. I tried running it direct through the tv and had the same problem. Google turned up a few people having the same issue as me (with both the 350 and 550).

I had read that. I am new to Pioneer and was wondering if the Elite is just marketing or if it is worth the extra $200?

If you haven't already check out this thread over at AVS. It helped me clear up a lot of confusion about the 350's audio settings.

I tried reading that thread and pulled out what I could find but the problem is still there.

Pioneer Elite is the higher end of the Pioneer line. They use chosen specificly for the Elite line. They also have a two year warranty vs a one year. I believe that the modest increase in performance is going to have to be determined by you weather or not it is worth the price difference.

Now i don't know if your receiver is like my Onkyo 605 but i have an option to setup the sound options of each setting + or - db for each source. I have my centre channel pumped up for my movies and have also increased the source volume for each player. The TV watching indeed gets a bit louder so i just adjust my TV/CBL minus a few db and all seems fine.
