Panasonic blu ray player or Denon 1600 for CD and DVD?

simple short question

Should I use my Panasonic blu ray player DMP-BD80K for blu ray, DVD and CD playback conected to a rotel receiver via analog outputs?

Or

Keep the older Denon 1600 hooked up via toslink to the reveiver for CD and DVD playback? And use the panny for blu ray discs only?

more info below if you want more insight to answer.

Yesterday I purchased a Panasonic blu ray player model DMP-BD80K
I was waiting for a player just like this for sometime. (a standalone blu ray player with component video out and 7.1 analog outputs)
The blu ray player is connected to a Rotel RSX-1056 receiver via analog audio output with Ultra Series THX® 600 Audio Interconnects And conected to a 55" 1080i Mit Rear projection via component video.

Thanks!

What does the Panasonic do that the Denon does not? What does the Denon do that the Panasonic does not. I would do a side by side and see which one you want.

I am wondering if the Denon has better DACs or if the panasonic is better since it is 7 years newer and technology has changed?

If the Denon is connected with toslink, the DACs within it are not being used. The question is how the DACs in the DB80K compare to those in the Rotel receiver.

I would audition the two, but I can tell you, if we didn't have a Squeezebox for a primary music source (i.e. All music is stored on a "server",) I would have either kept the old CD changer or old DVD player connected. I would simply find our Panasonic BD35 too slow to load and etc... for CDs. Well, unless CDs load faster in it than DVD and BR (never tried it.)

I did have a similar dilemma when I got the Squeezebox. The question was whether to connect digitally (toslink or coax) or analog. I tried both, and found that I prefer the sound of the DAC in the Yamaha RX-V1300 receiver over the Burr Brown DAC in the Squeezebox. I can't tell you which is better, but I can tell you which one I prefer.

Good point. I guess I did not think of that, hat the burr brown DACs where only used durring DVD audio playback since analog is the only way I could listen to DVD audio.

Since I want to enjoy the lossless audio from the BR player I will keep it connected via RCA cables for audio.
