Don't know. I came across this yesterday at AVS and it may not be every store either. I read that some went to CC, went to checkout and it rang up full price. Someone tried to pick up King Kong and Batman Begins and it didn't work. I don't know how much KK is there, but if it's more than $29.99, that might be the problem.

It's great that all of these deals are popping up, but man, this is a really bad time. There's a ton that's coming out or has come out in Oct., plus there's quite a few in nov. My BD collection might out-number my HD collection now!

I don't want to link to other forums here, but it looks like this is a LEGIT thing nationwide through Saturday that they didn't tell some of the individual stores about. I swear to god, if it was April......

Okay, I can now CONFIRM this. I just bought 6 HD-DVDs for the price of 3.

I just grabbed a bunch of both formats, all rang up as $15 (from $30) or $12.50 (from $25). Though it doesn't seem to work on titles above (but not including) $30. So no dice on the $35 HD DVD combos and Fox BDs scattered in their selection. Also titles released today (like Transformers) don't appear to be included. It seems anything not released today that's $30 or less is fair game = HD DVDs, HD DVD Combos, and Blu-rays.

The location was Arundel Mills in Maryland.

It's a mistake, the sale is only suppose to be blu-ray. But some stores are clueless and it's ringing up the hd-dvd's too. It appears to be random as to what works and what doesn't. As they get the system corrected less and less titles will work. Assuming they don't catch it and deny you the sale completely.

Do you have proof of this?

It's most likely is a big mistake. I'm pretty sure their "BOGO" deal this week was like Best Buy's, only on select Buena Vista Blu-rays. That's the way it usually works, studios control the titles they decide to place in deals like this, every studio agreeing to place every one of their titles on both formats in a sale like this is highly unlikely.

Two things here.. Usually when a retail store makes a mistake like this it's found out and corrected in hours not days. Second, a post on another forum indicates that senior mgmt of CC says this was a last minute promotion... Not saying its true or not, just repeating what was posted.

I walked into my CC, picked some films and went up to the counter. I asked about the deal and the guy confirmed that "the computer had been discounting them all day." Of course, when he rang up my four HD DVDs (Deer Hunter, Dazed and Confused, American Werewolf and The Sting) they were not discounted. The guy then began rummaging through the weekly ad looking for the information. Finally he asked a manager who knew nothing about the deal. The manager came over and discounted the discs by hand. It was treated as half-off instead of BOGO. So…

$29.99 = $14.99
$24.99 = $12.49

They did have Transformers, but I’d already ordered that from Amazon. I almost bought it anyway, though.

Good deal. I bought Transformers from Amazon as well, but decided to send that back when it arrives and get it at CC. Might as well. For a couple bucks more, I could get another title.

Just a heads up, looks like you were absolutely correct and comments from management may have just been speculation on their part. From what I have been reading the BOGO is now GONE from the CC systems! Hope everyone got something they wanted out of it.

This Circuit City sale is turning into a nightmare for me. Two of the four movies I bought yesterday were scratched (fucking combos!), so I went back to return them and, of course, they were out of one of them. I decided to switch out the one they did have in stock and exchange the other for Transformers (I’ll just return my Amazon order). I had to fight with the manager about the switch. He claimed that new release HD DVDs were exempt.

Now, I’ve opened the exchanged discs and the combo disc is again scratched and Transformers looks like it came from a sawmill (i.e., there’s dust on the discs). I’m not going to gain anything in this sale if I keep having to waste gas traveling back and forth for returns.

Is the HD DVD side scratched? I have to admit I couldn't care less about what the DVD side looks like.

My copy of Transformers looked pretty dusty as well (played perfectly though), but that's what you get when the discs are "Made in Mexico"

Yes, very scratched. It's those damn "remember to upgrade" cards.

DOH! Man that sucks. The only (purchased) combo I've had a problem with was "We are Marshall". Of course to me thats one too many...(stupid combos!)

That said, shouldn't the return be pretty easy? And dust on the Xformer discs?? I haven't heard of that happening ANYWHERE! Hope things get better man!

That really sucks PH. Maybe I should check my discs that I got last night. I also picked up The Day After Tomorrow and FF2, even thought I just got them from amazon, which I will be sending back. The freebies I got with those were Ladder 49 and 28 Days Later. I picked up Underworld and T2 as well.

My gripe with CC is that they won't hold any titles, even if you're coming in that same day. Every other store does it. I tried to get Top Gun and only one store in my area had it. Of course, it was the one that was the farthest away. I called them up to see if they had it and they said yes, only one copy. I asked them if they could hold it as I was on my way there. They said "No, we can't do holds". "It's been on the shelf for awhile, so if you're coming right now, you'll be o.k.".

Sure enough, when I get there, it's gone! Apparently, some other joker heard about the BOGO and bought about 15 titles - one of them Top Gun. What a bunch of assholes! I wasted about an hour of my time plus gas going to that store for nothing.

After my 3rd trip to CC I FINALLY got an unscratched copy of Dazed and Confused (still with the Tokyo Drift insert, though) and a clean-ish copy of Transformers. It really looks like Transformers was packaged in a barn...

Fox has lowered it's pricing on a few of its movies, if you check out amazon. The Die Hard Series is cheaper, and so is the Simpson movie.
