Hoosiers (Blu-ray)

HD Video: 7.5/10
HD dts-hd Audio: 8.5/10

Ken Brown of Highdef Digest panned Hoosiers in his review. I guess he has some very good points made. I think that the film grain is pervasive in the movie, but it will depend on whether you find that to be good or bad. It's easy to see how much improved the film is by just glancing at the trailer to see what the original film looked like. Personally, I found this to be another Fox misstep, but I might end up getting this movie anyways. The improvement over dvd (though I don't know about the special edition dvd) is very noticeable. My parents owned the dvd, and the sound was warbly and the picture was not terribly better than vhs. The sound was more improved on the dts-hd track, though I wish we could get the lossless part of it. I didn't even bother with the dolby 4.0 track. The improvement from dvd is noticeable, but the price Fox charges may make me wait a bit on buying this one, or seeing if they double dip later on.

FEARLESS HD-DVD

VIDEO: 8.5/10
AUDIO(DD+): 8.5/10

Good movie and some awesome fighting moments as well. The disc looked great and sometimes purely amazing, but i did find some interior shots in the house were bit soft here and there. The audio was also pretty nice as well, but i was expecting more surrounds in use for the film. They are there and show off some great atmospheric moments (like the kids chasing the dragonflies and interior fight scenes) Yet i guess i was expecting a little more.

Interesting. I felt the transfer held up on the same level as The Prestige, Batman Begins, Casino Royale to name a few.

Children of Men, wow. Incredible movie, incredible picture and sound.

However,I have not sat and watched an HD-DVD all the way through in a while, and I forgot about how glitchy my HD-D1 is. However, with just a simple rewind a few times, everything was fine. It did interrupt the shot in the car, though.

Happy Feet. Incredible transfer, the details and colors were amazing. Just for fun I flipped it over and watched a little of the SD. I flipped it back after about a minute. How did we all get by before these new formats? I did feel that the bass was lacking on my system. I wonder if it has anything to do with the Dolby TrueHD soundtrack as normally I get plenty of bass with DDPlus soundtracks and PCM. Ah well, I just turned up my sub volume, but it was still kind of annoying.

Flyboys. Solid movie for a rental. Absolutely reference picture and sound. just blew me away and along recent Eragon, proves that MPEG2 can still prioduce an amazing picture as long as the title is newly remastered.

Well i too have seen the movies you just listed as well and i thought the interior/dark scenes held up a sharper image then what Fearless did. I was close to giving it a 9 but some parts i thought back too and thinking about what the above 3 movie produce (and King Kong) It just fell a bit bit short for me. Still the outdoor scenes when he is fighting and him out in the rice fields were just pure HD eye candy moments

This is one of my guiltiest of guilty pleasures but i have to say i was a bit disappointed with the disc. I remember the film being soft looking in theaters but some parts seem really soft and some of the black/dark scenes seem to have a slight compressed look (like near the end with 6 pn the rooftop) The audio remember kicking sme serious ass in the theater but wow did the Dolby track disappoint me and it seem pretty front heavy. I did switch over to the PCM track and go 2.0 PL II Movie setting on my receiver and i found the sound better then the Dolby and the sound even sounded more discrete. Odd and makes me really thing about saving up for a new receiver to enjoy the LPCM tracks

Not gonna rate anything since I have only seen 3 HD HD HD HD HD HD HD  movies so far.

Mission Impossible III - Holy crap! Amazing PQ. I thought I was gonna get scratched by Tom Cruises stubble. The sound kind of disappointed me w/ only a compressed DD 5.1. Still good but I was expecting better.

We Were Soldiers - Awesome picture and sound. Watched it twice this weekend. First time was with DD EX 5.1 and second time with DTS 6.1. "WOW!" is all I can say about the DTS track. Best audio I have ever heard! I actually cringed when people got shot because it sounded like it really hurt. pop pop pop pop! Can't wait for Saving Private Ryan!

Behind Enemy Lines - Loved the picture quality. All the detail in the rocks and trees looked great. Audio was kickass w/ DTS HD, but not as good as the We Were Soldiers track.

Definately loving my first trip down HD HD HD HD HD HD HD  lane. Time to get some more!!!

Crank is almost a reference disc. Too bad it's a crappy movie.

I wasn't blown away by the quality of the transfer, but it is still better than dvd, and if you are a fan of the film it's a good buy. Funny thing is that I must be getting more PC, because I didn't find the movie as hilarious as I remembered it to be.

Stargate (Blu Ray)

A few fleeting moments of HD spread throughout a very grainy movie. This was a blockbuster after Jurassic Park for crying out loud, give this movie a Star Wars remaster! One big improvement over the previous DVDs I must note is the color saturation, much improved color on the whole... though the occasional shot(most early scenes), yeild pinkish fleshtones. the DTS audio is otherwise excellent.

Happy Feet (blu-ray)
Video is top-notch. Beautiful film. Was blown away with the elephant walrus scene. That is the best looking shot in the entire film I think. Awesome stuff. BR got jipped on the audio portion with only a DD 5.1 but it still sounds great. Guess this will be a double dipper in two years when Happy Feet 2 comes out, lol
