It looks pretty much like you would expect an over ten year old film with cheesy CGI to look, but there's nothing much to complain about either. I think it was a little soft, but I don't remember how this looked to begin with.
The sound was excellent.

Terminator 2: Directors Cut (HD-DVD)

Video: 8/10
Audio: 9/10

It's almost hard judging this one anymore, as I've seen so many versions of it, and yeah bought all of them. I've likely seen this and Army of Darkness more than anything, just because their always being released. I really don't know if T2 can be reference material due to the way it was shot. THis transfer is good, but there's still lots of grain. Plus this isn't the best HD I've seen, actually most of the movie looks downright flat compared to other releases. It's really only the last sequence in the foundry that blows my skirt up. Audio wise, there's nothing wrong here, sounds better than I've ever heard it. Thanks to being bi-format, I now have all three Terminator movies!

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST Blu-ray

VIDEO: 10/10
AUDIO (PCM 2.0 w/PL II Movie): 10/10

Man if only i had a receiver with an HDMI connection to enjoy the true 5.1 LPCM track for the movie. Still the movie sounded great with the 2.0 with Pro Logic II Movie setting activated. Great sounding/looking disc.

You actually are not missing much unfortunately. It took me 17 minutes into the film (switching back & forth) before I finally heard a difference leaning towards the LPCM track. I was almost gonna give up & give it the same rating as the Dolby track. Speech is clearer & louder in some scenes & surrounds are better balanced.

The Frighteners

Video (VC-1): 9/10
I’m going to stop listening to other reviewers. The Frighteners looks great! There are some spotty scenes here and there, but they’re mostly special effects-heavy scenes that looked rough to begin with. The biggest problem with the transfer is that the print is sprinkled with a few instances of specs and dirt. But it’s never distracting. Universal did a fine job.

Audio (DD+): 8/10
The audio goes from spectacular to almost too subdued, and some of the dialogue sounded a bit harsh and unbalanced at times. Surround activity is much more active than on the SD release, making for good immersion.

Dugpa would have given this a 7/10 for that same reason. Plus he would have probably found about 3 compression issues too. You're obviously not critical enough.

Just specs and dirt would still rate it 8/10 or so. I take into account the age of the film and thus specs and dirt on films five years old or less are unacceptable, whereas older films I'll let it slide a bit more. Compression issues are unacceptable on any age film though.

I found myself having to tinker around with the volume control. Something that never happens with LPCM. However, the sound was still incredible.

The Queen (Blu-ray)

HD Video: 8.5/10
HD LPCM: 8.5/10

Excellent film. There was quite a few inconsistent moments with film grain, where some shots were crystal clear and others clouded with grain. But it was still an impressive effort from Disney. In the trailers, I saw they are coming out with Sin City soon (though no date mentioned yet).

The Devil's Rejects (Blu-ray)

HD Video: 8.5/10
HD DTS: 8.5/10

I hated this movie. And I saw House of a 1000 corpses before it and felt the same way. Terrible. I take back what I said about Halloween, the Remake. If Zombie is doing it, it's going to blow hard.

Damn the bass in this movie was crazy. I think my sub might have started to break in too. My sub was literally shaking my room. I had a couple of plaques fall off my wall. It might also be the new placement I have the sub in. All of the passing over scenes...just...damn!

The Dolby track is actually better with this title imo.

Yeah, what's up with LFE + HD DVD? That combination usually spells disaster.

Chris Botti Live with Orchestra & Special Guests (2005) (Blu-Ray)

HD Video - 9/10
HD Audio Dolby Digital - 10/10
HD Audio LPCM - 9/10

Kinda shocked that the 640kbps Dolby mix was a step up on the 13.8mbps LPCM track! Think this is a first. I've heard Dolby tracks besting dts ones, but never LPCM ones. Why include 2 audio tracks you ask? This is why.

The Frighteners: Director's Cut (1996) (HD DVD)

HD Video - 9/10
HD Audio Dolby Digital Plus - 9/10

Lost in Translation (2003) (HD DVD)

HD Video - 9/10

Midnight Run (HD DVD)

I don't understand HTF's review, they gave the video a 2.5/5 and audio a 4/5 stating the transfer had excessive edge enhancement and the audio is the best film has ever sounded.

In reality, I couldn't find much if any EE on the transfer and while the score sounds quite clear, voices are terribly shrill sounding throughout the film and there is almost zero rear activity.
