1408 (Blu Ray) - Dutch

Video: 8.5/10
Audio: 9.5/10

Overall very solid, but the film has a slightly grungy look, which I suspect is to add atmosphere, as it's the worst in the hotel room. The audio here is incredible, tons of bass, all surrounds utlilized heavily for the sounds of the evil room. Nice to finally have this in proper HD.

The Jackal (Blu Ray) - German

Video: 8.5/10
Audio: 8.5/10

Much much better than the previous DVD release, colors and depth are there, but the transfer seems a bit dark. Audio is great for the most part, except dialog is occasionally obscured by the music or action oncreen.

A little beef with this one. The Germans once again show their xenophobic asshole ways by only having German subtitles during the Russian dialog scenes. Luckily I've seen it enough I remember more or less what their saying, but this is highly irritating. Every time a release comes from Germany, there's bound to be something like this at play.

This had to be one of the most efficient lossless tracks I have seen. The track averaged about 1.7mbps throughout the movie.
Warner uses TrueHD 16bit/48khz for most of their releases which is the most efficient lossless pick out there.

Untraceable (Blu-ray)

HD Video: 9/10
HD TrueHD: 9.5/10

Another lean and efficient THD track, as it also averaged about 1.7 mbps. The audio was very immersive. Bracke knocked the film for the director's style of filming, but I thought the presentation was very clean. The entire film does look bleak, but it's Portland and the horror film was meant to be set that way (kind of like how The Ring was shot).

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (Blu-ray)

HD Video: 10/10
HD LPCM: 10/10

I thought this was a fantastic HD transfer for the movie. I felt like I was seeing and hearing it for the first time. Very enjoyable...great job, Disney!

Before the Devil Knows Your Dead (Blu Ray)

Video: 8.5/10
Audio: 9/10

Would have been better, but the mastering is questionable, very disctinct jaggies appear throughout the movie, otherwise the level of detail and blacks are superb,

Kingdom Of Heaven (Blu Ray)

Video: 10/10
Audio: 10/10

This movie was made for my JVC RS1 projector. The stark blacks in the middle of the desert yeild a truely three dimensional image. The audio is equally impressive. Takes a long time to get in the frame of mind to watch a three hour movie, especially one about the crusades(a disgusting chapter in history), so thats why I'm just reviewing it. Plus it's nice to be able to fully enjoy it's 1080p goodness and DTS-MA audio.

Yeah, that title was probably not your best foray into blu-ray. That said, I didn't think the picture transfer was horrible, but I agree that for $27.99, the no-features/blah transfer makes this title not worth it. You can sometimes find this on a bogo sale, but I still haven't seen it worth my money yet.

The PQ on all 3 discs isn't too bad given the source. (film stock from the 20's-50's) My real complaint has to be the audio. The first 2 titles, ya can hear an improvement with TrueHD over Dolby but oddly not in the third release. My best guess is because of the 18 year gap between releases. The third release has a bit more modern clips & interviews from cast done in 94 & I found the video in this area an improvement over the previous 2, nothing to shout home about though. The TrueHD track is lack luster to say the least. No surround use, dialog & pitch are well say... tamed. So basically crack up you AV & you might be satisfied enough with it, not me. For hardcore fans of MGM musicals around the 30's & 40's.

Film stock from the 30's-50's is better than most of the cheap film stock that was used in the 80's. Hell, a few of the films in TE were shot in 70mm.

Just saying how well its held its own for the past 80 years. Granted its not demo material but still gives hope for fans of films such as Kong (33) etc.

Short Circuit (Blu-ray)

HD Video: 8.5/10
DTS-HDMA: 8.5/10

There were varying issues of softness/blurriness in certain cases and quite a few areas where the lighting would flicker. But I think these were source issues. There are white specks also. But it is a vast improvement over the dvd. The dts-hdma soundtrack was capable, but not exemplerary.
