Point Break

Video: 9/10
Audio: 9/10

Much more solid than I was anticipating! A few shots here and there are oddly soft, but detail for the most part is excellent(it always much more clearly identifies the stunt doubles on surf boards

), I can't imagine this one looking any better. The surround was suprisingly lively, and music of the score is well reproduced, holding up quite well.

Gangs of New York

Video: 7/10
Audio: 9/10

It was a stretch giving it a 7. For the most part detail is good, it can just be hard to notice through the EE. Grain is heavy throughout, but I remember that being part of the theatrical experience. This is the second worst transfer I've seen to HD(Lethal Weapon 2 and it's massive jaggies holding the title), but still an improvement over the DVD. On my set up on a 147in screen, the DVD is completly unwatchable(one of the few DVDs that is), at least this isn't. The audio is a nice upgrade. I wonder if this will ever get the proper treatment it deserves.

I'd call it reference quality, might be MPEG-2, but it looks absolutely untouched in terms of DNR or EE. It really sets the bar that all '80s actioners should reach or surpass.

Something about The 6th Day just ain't right. Can't point my finger at it... maybe its the EE & very minor DNR but some shots easily look like a 4 star transfer.. I guess consistency in image quality fluctuates a lot. The audio lacked punch. Dynamic compression maybe the cause but thats my only real complaint for the audio.
