First the video. The colors popped, everything was vibrant, and the clarity and definition of the video would have given this release a 10/10 for video... as it should have been for a movie which was mostly outside in the bright sunlight... BUT, someone screwed the pooch with either the BD transfer or the original print. The gamma and brightness were jacked up so high that there was a gray wash all over everything. It was annoying in the daylight scenes, but especially noticeable in any night time or night/indoor scenes. Everything in the background that was suppose to be shadowed was gray and hazy. I'm guessing that they wanted the movie to be super bright and pop off the screen so someone artificially jacked up the brightness from what was on the master print.

I did check my projector settings and everything was good there. I would consider buying this movie because it was pretty funny and over the top, and besides being pretty racist, it does have a good message in the end. But the video issues bugged me so much that I just cant pick it up.

Sadly i'm here to tell you that this was how it was in theaters too. I remember while it played at my theater that the print might of been off/out of focus. Thankfully we had 2 prints to compare and they were both soft/flat, grainy, and dull coloured prints. I too was expecting more to pop off on screen with the outdoor scenes (hell look at the trailers) but they did not.

Here are some comparison shots I took of the Blu Ray compared to the HD quicktime trailer.... fugly I wish the BD looked like the trailer did, color-wise anyway

Parents - HD TrailerParents - Blu Ray

Pinky - HD Trailer . . Pinky - Blu . .

Truck Flip - HD Trailer Truck Flip - Blu

I agree with Plissken on this disc. It is barebones on features, but the video quality was a huge improvement. The opening scene with Tina was a bit murky, but things tightened up afterwards.

I checked out a few scenes & indeed there is heavy DNR applied to the transfer. Not so sure I'll be as forgiving when I rate this.

Already been over this ad nausiem with the AVS guys. I'll just say I strongly disagree. This has never been a grainy movie, and most all the cast members have naturally smooth faces. And there's tons of detail on Freddys make up, not to mention the excellent shadow detail which makes his face alot more visible than ever before.

Agreed. Some of that is just 80's photography, and some is just their faces being smooth. Like Plissken said, there is tons of detail in Freddy's face even when he is in the same shot as a soft faced kid. I don't see how they would apply DNR to half of the same shot.

Just telling ya what I noticed when I threw it into the player. I ain't gonna argue about it. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Your right the film has always had that 80's smooth look. What I noticed most was less compression & a huge leap in color reproduction.

The Happening

The video was good overall but really lacked fine object detail, which given the director I'm thinking is intentional, but still. And btw what a completly pointless movie lol, glad I only rented it.

Short but bloody fun movie. Great PQ even with the grey filters in use. Sound was great but i thought could of been a little more atmospheric in the jungle scenes. Bass was strong and found it more realistic at home then what played with the film at my theater i work at (strong but flat sounding)

It's hard to say if this one deserves a full 9 in the PQ dept. Overall it looks good, fine object detail is great, the make up and production design in the afterlife sequences... it's almost like watching it for the 1st time! However there are some scenes that look inconsistent(plus the fine layer of grain throughout the whole thing), but i tend to think those are all source related. Sound is good, just lacking bass.

Pretty much a flawless presentation! As for the movie... it is the weakest by far of the Indy films to be sure, but it's still not too bad(really if you can get past the monkeys and Lebouf, it's good). And at no point are Lucas or Spielberg seen holding Indy down and raping him lol.

Although it averages out to a 9, there's a lot of 8 in this transfer. Compared to the 2 hour compression artifact that was the SD DVD, this is worlds better, but still too soft at times. The audio although not lossless is good really, you just have to turn it waaay up.

Considering it's 16mm source, I don't see this movie looking any better, and actually it's quite impressive! The audio isn't much to write home about, but it also is about as good as it can get. As for the movie, well I Netflixed it to give it one last try... and yep, it still sucks major donky balls. Bad acting even for a film of it's genre(was everyone as grateful as I when the fat wheelchair guy died?), the scares are predictable... and it's just bla. I tried, I really did, but the remake is much better. *ducks for cover*

Simply breathtaking, as expected! The entire thing looks entirely 3-D, and the audio crisp, clear and simply perfect sounding. This is DTS MA, as is From Dusk Till Dawn despite their packages only saying DTS. I don't mind that it's not the DC, as I felt like a schmuck for buying that on DVD for like 3 minutes extra from each story.

Cool, look forward to watching this now. Um, is From Dusk till Dawn released this tuesday as well from Alliance Atlantis?

You might want to put the studio next to the title. Alliance Atlantis is bigger than you might think with distribution rights over Dimension Films, Focus Features, Weinstein Company, Miramax to name a few. I also don't consider their titles as imports otherwise my DVD collection would be a massive import fest.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) (Blu-Ray)

HD Video - 9/10
HD Audio Dolby TrueHD - 9/10

Video & audio could look better but for a 10+ year old film I thought it looked on par with average new release transfers.
