So far, the 4 titles I've seen on the A2 load up around 20 seconds. The same goes for other HD DVDs on the A2.

Superman Returns (BD) - Amazing transfer, as anyone should expect from a brand new movie. I noticed some compression and noise in a few dark scenes, but I've read this is due to the cameras used for the movie. Everything with any light on it looked fabulous.

Out of Sight (HD DVD) - WOW... I mean... WOW... Who would have thought Out of Sight would be a freaking refference disc? It seriously looks AMAZING in HD. I was really surprised and impressed.

I have to agree with this review as well. The picture was pristine, and I had read the Bracke review on this, and saw the part where he mentioned the scene where it looked like noise, but it was rain. It's the part where they are passing the Putnam barn. I thought the entire movie was cleanly shown. The LPCM audio was very good, but not as dynamic as some other movies have been.

The movie itself was kind of sucky. They could have done more with it, but I guess there was just a poor script. Leaves you thinking there will be a Covenant 2.

PH, even though there hasn't been an official announcement I think it's a disc issue. All of the Weinsteins on my A1 take as long as every other HD DVD I have. The only one that took forever to load was Chronos.

Hmm. I'll switch it out and see if I get a working disc. My other Weinsteins are faster as well. Thanks.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (HD DVD) - Universal is just doing amazing work in HD, seriously. This movie looks brand new, the colors are fucking AMAZING, and detail is much improved. I popped in the Criterion edition to compare and it was just blown away by the HD disc. Universal deserves a sloppy blowjob for this one.

well... ummm. we'll see what we can do about that. I have been hesitant to pick it up as it is lacking the Gilliam commentary, but this makes me think again.

The HD-DVD is very good, but I'd keep the Criterion if you have it. That's one of my favorite Criterion discs.

Funny, my last HD watched was also "Clerks II". I found it funnier than I was expecting.

The biggest letdown was the "donkey" scene. Every review I've read states that the scene "has to be seen to be believed" but they really didn't show anything other than facial expressions. Big deal...

Just bought Caddyshack . This is the first HD title (BD or HD-dvd) that I've been underwhelmed with. I love this movie but the far out shots were really horrible while the up close shots looked really good in hi def.

Yeah Clerks 2 was much much better than I'd hoped, I think it's funnier than the original actually. I actually hadn't heard about the donkey scene, so it was a suprise for me.

I should note, I only have the video and audio 8's because the video was meant to be grainy, and the adio is not spactacular outside the music(the uncluded TrueHD track is nice). I'd say it accuratly represents what was shot.

Where did you hear that? When I saw the film in the theatre, it looked exactly the same as it does on HD-DVD. The opening shot was the only bit that had excessive, intentional grain.

True thats where the heavy grain was, but the movie is a very slight film grain going on all the time, which is true to it's low budget nature. I did not actually see it in theaters, so if you did and say you saw no grain theatrically, then this might be due to the Mpeg4 compression used.

There were spots of grain here and there, but it wasn't, by any means, excessive. I saw it in DLP and usually intentional grain (like in Miami Vice) really shows up, but that wasn’t the case for Clerks II. I guess we'll have to call Kevin.

King Kong HD-DVD

Video: 10/10
Audio: 9/10

KK has the 3D thing going on for most of the film, while the clarity of the image does make some of the FX look fake, I don't mind. The audio is excellent, but I can't help but feel it could be a wee bit better with a DTHD track.

If you read the HD reviews out there Kevin Smith does indeed answer your question in the technical commentary on the disc. I have only seen bits and pieces of my disc so far but the grain is indeed present on my viewing but looks almost just like what i saw in theater.

I didn't expect this film to look as good as it does. The sound is the best I've heard from a 20th Century BD. PQ frooze about an hour into the flick & than resumed 10 seconds later.

Price-wise, no. The PQ is noticeably better than the DVD but not by much & the dts sound is great. I noticed throughout.. picture is soft, flat looking at times. Colors are pale & there are a few spots where grain pops up but isn't excessive. Few extras as well though I don't care about that. The dts soundtrack is loud, never distorts, dialog is mixed well & the LFE booms.
