Can anyone confirm if the AU Universal releases of Rambo 1-3 and Total Recall have the pitch issues of the Studio Canal releases?

I was just going to bring up that there is a Dutch release of Reservoir Dogs is out on HD.

I'm wondering if there is another place to buy some of these discs. For example, I was able to save a bit of money by going directly to amazon.co.uk to get The Prestige HD, instead of buying it at Xploitedcinema. Amazon.fr has T2 for a few Euros less than getting it thru Xploited. Although after exhancge and shipping, I think you might end up only saving less than $1 on T2.

Are there Polish, Dutch and German sites that one could order directly from that might have some of these discs for cheaper ?

I would seriously consider just going through Xploited 95% of the time. Much less wait time (always get my orders in 2 days w/ priority), easy communication, and returns. I've dealt with Xploited a lot (way before they started carrying HD/BD) and they're good people, never a problem.

The only other places I'd consider is Amazon.uk and Amazon.jp. Amazon.de tends to have insane shipping costs and Amazon.fr screwed me around more than once.

DDDHouse is also great, but they only have just a handful of BDs so far.

Universal just announced American Gangster for HD DVD in Germany on 3.27.08.

Also Warner announced The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford for HD/BD in Germany on 2.29.08. Warner just announced the U.S. DVD, but not a U.S. HD/BD release, so I dunno...?

Pony Canyon has announced Afro Samurai for HD/BD in Japan with TrueHD and DTS-MA tracks on 2.20.08.

Apparently Lord of War is a mess and not worth it.

However people are reporting that Reservoir Dogs looks significantly better than the BD. So that may be worth it especially when Xploited has it for only $27! Only downside is that it uses MPEG2, but people are stating its an excellent MPEG2 encode.

Ruined, I see you're pestering () various forums about whether the DFW imports are 1080p/24. If they weren't, couldn't you just flip your display's res to 1080p/60?

Yes, but I don't want them if they aren't the proper framerate

I know at least half of the titles from the first batch of Dutch Filmworks titles are confirmed to be at the wrong framerate. I'm guessing Res. Dogs is too, but I have not confirmed it. I ended up cancelling my order. MPEG2 + most likely wrong framerate = wait for another distributor to put the film out. I wonder who owns the rights in Germany? Concorde Video seems to be putting out really solid releases.

But which version? I have never seen the 'cleaned up' print without the statue, or whatever they did to the film. I have 2 copies of the super rare original uncut DVD release.

From IMDB:

In the version released for USA premium cable channels as well as later releases on home video, the following changes were made in response to the lawsuit regarding the large white statue in Milton's office: in all the early scenes in his office, the statue has been changed. It looks much like the original with one major difference - there are no people in it. Instead, it's just an abstract swoosh of white waves. This was digitally inserted by Warner's effects department, and they did what must be said is an amazing job - the overlay is completely seamless, even following the random camera motions around the office. Later at the climax, when Lomax first arrives at Milton's office for the showdown and we hear Milton's voice bouncing around the office, the statue starts swirling to life. It comes to a rest in the form seen in the original version of the movie, with all the human forms in it, as Milton makes his appearance. From that point on, the scene remains the same as in the original.

The director of Devil's Advocate saw a statue called Ex Nihilo in a church. Ex Nihilo is Latin for "out of nothing". It depicts the creation of humans in Genesis. The director said "I like that. That looks like something that Milton would have in his office." So he tracked down the artist and asked if it could be used in Devil's Advocate. The sculptor is fanatically religious and wanted his art nowhere near something called 'The Devil's Advocate'.

The director then had the prop department whip something up that closely resembled the Ex Nihilo statue. When the film came out, the church and the sculptor were not amused. Lawsuits were thrown around and in the end Warner had to change it for the final video release of the film.

Ex Nihilo in the National Cathedral, Washington DC

I have the DVD with the original statue in it, but I'd gladly trade for the HD version, as the transfer is very very dated.

I saw In The Shadow Of The Moon in the theater. Great film, but I'm not sure if it's something that really requires HD. Mostly talking heads and footage from Apollo, which was all shot 16mm at best, often 8.
