DVDBeaver is reporting Tartan's U.K. Blu-ray of The Seventh Seal is region coded for Region B, so it will not play on U.S./Japan Blu-ray players.

Also Optimum's recent U.K. Blu-ray releases of Wolf Creek, The Host, and Pan's Labyrinth are region B coded.

I just noticed their BD of Pan's Labyrinth is Region B, so we might be fucked...

I'm already loving this Blu future.

re: Resident Evil 1

Which version to get?

The German?

Or the Japanese?

The German one came out first and the Japanese disc looks to have the same or similar features. As long as at least one does not have non-removable descriptive subtitles, I'll be happy. I am tempted to get the Japanese one simply because it is called Biohazard

.

The German disc was a weak MPEG-2 transfer, the Japanese is MPEG-4 AVC.

I was just about to order the SD-DVD of Atonement from the UK when I saw this.

• 1080P 1.85:1 Widescreen
• English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Japanese Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 Surround
• Subtitles: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Chinese
• Feature Commentary with Director Joe Wright
• Deleted scenes with commentary by Director Joe Wright (7:30)
• The Making of Atonement (26:49) - Watch the new become old as the filmmakers recreate the English Countryside of 1935, the famous Dunkirk evacuation and the drama of war torn WWII London.
• Novel to Screen (5:01) - Once again director Joe Wright takes a classic period story and re-invigorates it for a new audience. Re-uniting the director, producer and star of Pride & Prejudice, we look at how Joe’s modern style of film-making brings these novels alive.

It's out on 3/10/08.

Thought this might interest those with Region A players.

Hollywoodland is out in Japan. Don't import it from Australia or UK as the disc is region locked, unless you have a capable player, so this news is a god send.

It is obtainable from www.play-asia.com whom also accept Paypal for $46.90 US.

Not buying it myself as I have the region B player, but the film does look sensational on blu-ray and highly recommended to all.

You know the more I think about it, the more I think I should get that overseas HD DVD of Tideland... I thought it was boring when I first watched it, but it is Gilliam and its OAR too and HD. That might never happen again for that movie.

Actually on AVS there is a site that details which companies do that, so far it's 99% Fox titles. These aren't going to be coded, at least Pulp Fiction is still on(so far). However by Nov 30th, we may well see domestic releases at the same time.
