I agree to an extent about the picture. But it's still an improvement and the audio is also superior to the SD-DVD. I feel that a lot of these kind of critics are just going to give the film and HD-DVD a bad review no matter what just because Seagal is in it.

Yeah, Alan Gouger at AVS liked Warner's transfer on the BD edition (likely identical):

Ok guys I have to do a reverse on my PQ score on this one.
I just watched it, the whole movie. For the most part the transfer is great. The bright scenes are stunning. near the middle and the end the dark scenes are plagued with video noise. Not film grain but compression noise in the dark areas. It comes and goes but it i there. I tried different gamma settings. I also flipped between video and PC level. Video level definitely masked it the most but there is no denying it this noise is there. I am guessing the intensity of plasma or RP may really bring this out so on a scale of 1 to 10 I would have to give this a 6. Otherwise this transfer is sharp and solid but that dame noise in the blacks is distracting

Pretty sure he's viewing at 12'.

Not really...

I was obsessed with films like this when I was a teenager. When it came down to scheduling reviews for this month, I specifically requested 'Out for Justice' to be added to my list -- what better way to relive the nostalgia of former favorites than to review them?

Seems like he was a fan of the movie from long ago and wanted to see it. This seems to be the reason he panned it:

The print does show some wear and the film suffers from light softness, but I was ready to give this one an above-average rating since it looked quite good for a film of its era.

Unfortunately, the video quality declines dramatically as the film moves to nighttime shots and scenes with lower lighting, exhibiting poor shadow delineation, crushing, and consistently distracting bouts of heavy noise. As the noise increases, detail and depth decrease, with the end result being an unattractive picture that has severe technical problems. I acknowledge that the daytime scenes look pretty good, but their attributes only serve to highlight the deficiencies in the rest of the presentation.

Making matters worse, sound effects are stagey and lack proper support from the subwoofer -- shotguns sound hollow, explosions sound watery, and splintering wood occasionally sounds like plastic. Everything sounds as if it's being bottle-necked by its dependence on the center channel, and dynamics falter as a result.

Granted, most of these issues can be blamed squarely on the film's poorly constructed sound design.

Sounds like a fair lashing of a catalog title that was just thrown out like a lot of the other ones have from either format.
