I don’t plan to open any of these until my player arrives, so I’ll have to take your word for it.

P.S. Blu-ray is fucking expensive! I was pleased to find that I still get my BN discount at Amazon with these, but I’m used to only paying $26 for combos.

• Volver (Derb, I’ll kill you if this has yellow subtitles) $26.95

And free with the player:
• POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl
• POTC: Dead Man’s Chest
• Transporter
• Fantastic Four (selling)
• Crash (selling)
Hmm, only two are that expensive, the rest are cheaper than hd-dvd. Plus, Casino Royale was cheaper when it first came out.

I'm just not used to paying $26 for something that isn't a 2-disc set or a combo.

Also, we don't know if those would be cheaper on HD-DVD. Most catalogue titles from Warner and Universal are $19.95.

I don't know why you would pay for the non-artwork combo disc either. Are you ever going to use the dvd-side of it? Highly doubtful. The combos were a great moneymaker for Universal because they were able to get you guys to buy a bunch of their overpriced movies. So why look at a useless dvd sided (without artwork, which I know you like) disc as more valuable than a bd-50 disc?

Because 1) I still think HD-DVD is the better format and 2) if both formats fail, those combos won't seem so bad anymore.

Well, it looks like I may not get to cheat on HD-DVD as soon as I’d like. I got an email from Robert at Value Electronics telling me that my Panasonic would not ship out until the end of July. So, unless I can find one in-store, I’ll be HD-DVD exclusive for a while.

That's too bad, but I wonder if that means that there are a lot of sales going on for bd players. Perhaps that's why you can't get one delivered right away. But at least you will have quite a collection built up for you to watch once the player gets in.

Have you been looking around for the player? Does amazon have it in stock?

Robert said that my order was in the "2nd allocation," which means that he’s either getting a large number of orders or he’s only getting a few of the players.

As for other retailers:
Best Buy lists it as "Out of Stock."
Circuit City lists it as "Coming Soon" with a date of 7/1/07.
Amazon doesn’t even have it listed.

I could go get the Sony right now, but I’m wary of it. The slow load times for BE discs, the alleged noisy playback and the lack of TrueHD decoding all give me pause. I know that these might be available later via a firmware fix… but how much later? I also prefer the Panasonic’s 7.1 analogs.

How long are you going to stay with analog? Also, THD will have to be updated because if the rumors are true that Sony is moving strictly to THD, then all their players will need to be able to play those tracks.

But it sounds like you are sure you want the Panasonic, so just wait on it.

For at least another month or so. The BD player is gonna bruise the bank account.

I've read (on AVS and a few other places) that the Panny handles the BD-J well. That could be horse-hooey, though.

Well I just sold my Wii. I just don't play it enough. So now I'm trying to decide what to do with the money - get this panny player or Master Replicas SW props.

I should have a box waiting for me when I get home today - the MR Vader SE bucket!

That's just karma smacking you in the head and saying, "What are you thinking???"

Just kidding. I was looking at both the Panasonic and the new Sony and decided to pass on both. Will most likely wait for the Samsung dual or get a new receiver.

Thanks! I really want the player and that review make it seem like a worthy purchase.

I cancelled my order for the Panny with VE. So, if anyone sees it online, let me know.

How come you cancelled PH? Would the wait have been that long?

I came to the decision to go ahead and get the panny, just so I can be twinners with PH! It'll be a few weeks though before I can do anything.

Now that BDA is doing a 5 free movies deal, it's like icing on the cake, especially if you get the panny - you get 10 free movies! Granted those titles aren't stellar, but they're better than the titles that toshiba offered and there is 5 titles I wouldn't mind having unlike with the toshiba offer.

Robert told me that it would be "late July" before it shipped. I'm hoping I can find one before that.

Wow, that long? I've been down that road before - last year with my HDTV. I was told that the wait would be about 5 weeks and it turned out to be 2 1/2 months before I ended up canceling and picked it up at BB instead.

If you come across anything, give me a heads up. I'll do the same.
