Et tu, Pirate?

Yes. I have signed on the dotted line. I have drunk from the wrong cup. I have given my voice to the Sea Witch. I have stolen the new leads. I have executed Order 66. I have shot Ben Parker. I have compared Jesus to King Kong. I have not thrown the ring in the fire. Indeed. I have placed my order for the Panasonic DMP-BD10A. I should have it on or around July 3rd.

Again, let me say that I am still 100% behind HD-DVD. If a film is available on both formats, I will buy the HD-DVD version (even if that means importing it).

And if for some reason I am disappointed by Blu, there will be a hat from which a name will be drawn… and then one of you will die.

It is too late for me...

You get your player on July 3rd, how symbolic!! It's a sign of independence.

No, I think that based on this latest purchased, at best it can be said that you're only 99% behind HD-DVD.

Pretty close.

I just ordered:
• Casino Royale
• The Queen
• Closer
• Weeds: Season One
• Kingdom of Heaven: DC
• Volver (Derb, I’ll kill you if this has yellow subtitles)

And free with the player:
• POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl
• POTC: Dead Man’s Chest
• Transporter
• Fantastic Four (selling)
• Crash (selling)

Pirate,

You ordered the about the Best BD titles so far and are selling the correct titles. If I remember correctly, Volver DOES NOT have yellow subtitles. They are white. The transfer is quite good and the film is great. I'm interested in your thoughts once you get set up. I have been not 100% pleased with BD so far. But have enjoyed having certain titles in Hi Def. HD DVD is still my favorite format of the two.

Wow, good choices. Might I also suggest the following:

The Prestige
Flightplan
Invincible
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

if those interest you.

How does Kingdom of Heaven fare on BD? Is it worth the upgrade over the already great SD-DVD?

I'm going to rent Hitchhiker's first since I've heard mixed reactions about the transfer. The Prestige will be imported for HD-DVD (that's right, bitches!). And I wasn't a fan of Flightplan or Invincible.

Pirate, how are you going to listen to both format's uncompressed soundtracks?

Are you going to get an HDMI capable receiver or does your receiver have multiple 6-channel-inputs?

There's also the switchbox option, which is how I do it until I buy a new receiver later this year.

I'm close to getting a new receiver. I'm going to wait for prices and specs for the new Onkyos and Pioneers, but I may get one sooner.

For the time being, I'll either get a switcher (like dugpa) or just switch them in and out manually. I won't be watching as much BD as I do HD-DVD, so it won't be much of a hassle.

Which switcher do you have, dugpa?

The Onkyo receivers are out, I played with the 805 at Circuit City the other day.

BTW, you can blame Amazon for my descent. That bullshit with the XA2 price pushed me towards the darkness. I still may get an XA2, though.

I might also add The Descent as a recommendation, if you like horror movies.

That's one of the few horror films in years that I actually did enjoy, so, yeah, I'll probably pick that up.

I have a combination of switch boxes I bought. I tried using a componet one, since it had six rca inputs, but discovered that for some reason it lowered the volume on some of the inputs. So now I have a mixed mess of more than one box I get to switch every time.

So, yeah, I'll do it manually.
