Smallville Season 6 on Blu-ray AND HD-DVD

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/news...ay,_HD_DVD/740

Nice announcement from Warner, who has decided that there is indeed another format besides hd-dvd. I am excited to see that more TV series will be appearing on high def. I might go buy this one and Season 5, just to try and hopefully spur increased interest in putting shows on hd disc formats.

In a high-def first,Warner will be making full use of Blu-ray's expanded disc storage capacity, with the Blu-ray version employing four discs instead of the HD DVD's five -- disc specs and extras, however, remain identical.
Not sure wether to get this on HD DVD (Own the 5th on HD DVD) or Blu-Ray..

Finally a studio is making use of extra GB space BD has.

Season 5 had the IME on the first episode of the set (for hd-dvd). I wonder if they'll do that on this one as well. Otherwise I may go blu for this set.

There's rumors WB will include it. I hope they do it.

If season 6 takes up 150 GBs on HD DVD couldn't the Blu-ray version be on 3 discs instead of 4? Also, why are the prices the same when the Blu-ray contains less discs?

They cost the same because you're getting the same content (so it seems so far). Not sure about the disc size issue though. I do know that there's a conversion they have to do to make the vc1 encode done for hd-dvd work for blu-ray because they blu-ray folks didn't implement it properly. Maybe that changes the size of the files and makes them bigger or something. It could also be that the blu-ray format needs slightly more overhead for it's system files and that bumps it over 150gb. Lots of reasons the size might be different between the two versions, take your pick why.

Yeah, you pay for the content, not the discs...

'Smallville' Blu-ray Hits Production Snag

Quote:
Although it had been due to hit store shelves earlier this week, Warner Home Video has comfirmed a "small delay" for the Blu-ray edition of 'Smallville - The Complete 6th Season.'

As our pal Dave Lambert over at TVShowsonDVD first reported earlier today, fans had been wondering why they couldn't find the Blu-ray edition alongside the HD DVD and DVD editions in stores.

Now, in a new statement to TVShowsonDVD Warner has confirmed the delay, saying:

"There was a small production delay that impacted getting product orders to retail accounts. The issue has been resolved and we're in the process of shipping the balance of retail orders."

There's no word on exactly how long it will take for the long-awaited Blu-ray edition to find its way to stores, but officially the title is still due this week.

Yeah, my blu-ray version shipped a day later, but I have heard that they were hard to find in B&M stores.

Is this a 4-disc set or 5?

Four discs. Mine shipped Wednesday and arrived today. So it wasn't much of a delay.

damn, thats quick.

I wonder if the the production delays have anything to do with it being a 4-disc. Maybe a packaging problem, QC checks etc.

Amazon shipped my copy a day after its release. Don't expect to get it until late next week.
