Troy Director's Cut - Sept 18th!

Blu-ray.com is reporting that we will finally see a Troy the director's cut on blu-ray this sept http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=300

i don't know if its coming to HD, but i'm an avid blu-ray supporter and its always bugged me that this awesome movie is only available in regular DVD and HDDVD, but consider this thread a discussion on the film on both high def formats

can anybody shed some light on this, is it true, i know a DC was in the works, but haven't seen the news anywhere else (blu-ray.com lists themselves as the source of the info and they have it grouped with news of some redneck comedy i've never heard of and a few other relase dates) so i don't know whether or not to get excited

Yeah, that and Batman Begins are two movies that have been sadly missing from the blu-ray aisle. If they are coming over that will be a welcome sight. I already have those two on hd-dvd, so I guess I'm okay on that end.

Actually if they make the BD version look better than the HD-DVD, I'll pony up for it. Terribly average transfer as it was.

Looks like it. It's certainly coming out in Europe, & i'd imagine the US will get the same set. 30 mins extra footage apparently.

Let the double-dips begin!

I don't have the first release and will not be picking this one up. Nice to see WB double dipping already when other catalogue titles like Shawshank, The Green Mile and other's have yet to hit HD.

Thanks for the info guys, i'm so excited for this movie, i hoinestly think Troy is such a good film, and i'm excited to see the added 30 mins, but hopefully they will include both versions of the film

but either way i'll be buying the BD the day its hits stores, which if it is sept 18th is not that far off so hopefully we can starting getting some deatails and specs soon

Cool. I wouldn't necessarily call it being released in Europe a sure sign it'll be released here though. Troy was/is more popular over there than here, so it may only see a release over there. But it doesn't much matter either way for me, my pop lives there and not here so I can just order it from amazon.co.uk for him.

It would be silly of them to not release it on regular dvd when that's where the largest market share of viewers is. I'm sure they will. Though why anyone wants to see 30 more minutes of that crappy film is beyond me.

I already own the hd-dvd version. I don't need to get a double dip. The first one is okay enough for me.

I like Peterson's work myself. Formulaic and predictable at times, but almost always a fun ride along the way

Troy should have been so much more than a fun ride and, honestly, I had very little fun watching it.

I thought Troy rocked!

I'll pick up the SD Director's Cut if/when it comes out.

Peace...

Not trying to start a slap-fight, but have you read The Iliad? What they did with Troy was sloppy, perfunctory and just plain lazy.

Warner Announces 'Troy: Director's Cut' for Blu-ray, HD DVD
Mon Jul 09, 2007 at 02:01 PM ET

In the first example of a studio "double dipping" a next-gen title, Warner Home Video has announced a new 'Director's Cut' version of 'Troy' for release this fall on Blu-ray and HD DVD.

The theatrical cut of 'Troy' was first released as an HD DVD-only version in September of last year, and quickly became one of the format's biggest sellers.

Now, Warner will revisit the $400 million-grossing worldwide hit in the newly-expanded 'Troy: Director's Cut,' which will see a simultaneous bow on both HD DVD and Blu-ray (as well as standard-def DVD), on September 18.

Full tech specs are not yet available for the next-gen releases, although supplemental details for the two-disc standard-def DVD version of 'Troy: Director's Cut' include a new introduction by director Wolfgang Petersen, multiple making-of featurettes and more. We'll keep you posted as soon as final specs are confirmed for the high-def versions.

Retail price has been set at $34.95 for both the Blu-ray and the HD DVD.

Warner has not yet indicated whether the existing theatrical cut edition of 'Troy' on HD DVD will remain on the market, or be discontinued in light of the new 'Director's Cut.' Stay tuned.

And for the record, I love kittens. They taste wonderful roasted in a nice sauce.

Nope, I haven't read The Illiad. In fact, I haven't read ANY of the books that movies are based on or related to. Technically, Troy might be all of the things you mention but that doesn't detract from the enjoyability of it for me. I do realize the books used as the basis for a number of movies are far better and more involved than the movie versions are but I watch the movies to be entertained not to compare then movie maker's interpretation of the original work. If I did, I would read the books after watching the movies.

So, your point is what?????

Peace...

You should have waited. If it goes out of print it'll become a collectable and you could probably sell it for three times that.
