Mr. and Mrs. Smith HD DVD now available for $39.99!

Looks like Fox was beat to the punch with this title, now available on HD DVD!

From our reliable friend Tony at xploitedcinema:
http://xploitedcinema.com/catalog/sm...e-p-12323.html

Region free, no forced subs! Will work perfectly on any HD DVD player.

Video: 1080p VC-1 Video
Audio: English DTS-HD 5.1, English Dolby Digital Plus 5.1, Polish Dolby Digital Plus 5.1
Subtitles: Optional Polish subtitles

And yes, the hideous yellow HD DVD sticker peels off easily from the front of the case. Also, the price is the same list price Fox was going to charge for the title before they delayed it indefinitely for BD

It looks a bit bare and I assume it's the theatrical cut.

I'm not sure which cut the Polish one is, but I know the previously announced but never released Fox BD was the theatrical cut. My guess is that its the theatrical cut, because the "unrated" version is actually a re-editing of the theatrical cut after its release to theaters with some scenes extended, some deleted, and some reshuffled - similar to the Payback Director's Cut it seems.

I'm just posting that this title, which was formerly announced as a BD exclusive, is now readily available at a US source for HD DVD. Whether its worth $40 depends on how much a fan of the movie you are, of course!

I kind of get a kick out of the film, but not $40 worth. I think I'll wait for the Fox blu-ray disc, and even then I don't know if I'd buy it if they price it as high as some of their other catalog titles were.

HD-DVD, not DVD. And posted news of legitimate releases is perfectly acceptable. If you were only in the hd-dvd camp and liked this film, you'd want to know about it.

I don't think sub780lime is saying that it shouldn't be posted. He's just questioning the price of a movie that wasn't all that spectacular. And for the record, he is in the hd-dvd camp only. It's not that he doesn't want to know about it, but $40 for a movie is pretty steep. But hey, that's hd-dvd for you. The format that has you import movies to watch them.

You mean, Blu Ray studios make ( no one REALLY MAKES you buy anbything, but since SOME studios won't support the better format ) you import HD DVDs :p

You mean like how I have to import Seventh Seal from Europe to watch it on Blu-ray?

Ah, you're just impatient. It will make its way over here to the states eventually. However, imported hd-dvds never have that option.

I'm not holding my breath right now for Criterion to jump in anytime soon. And I wouldn't be surprised if Mulholland Drive or The Pianist gets a release from Universal in the next year or so. I hope so anyway.

No, it's not. DVDs are DVDs and HD-DVDs are HD-DVDs. If it was a type of DVD it would be playable in any dvd player.

True, which has led to some consumer confusion. People are buying hd-dvd's thinking that they have an hdtv, and they have an upconvert player, so they should be able to play hd-dvd's, right? Hee hee. Suckers!!

Ah, but if it's a combo disc, all they have to do is turn it over and see it playing on their hdtv and they'll be all good. So maybe there's something to combo discs after all.
