My HD-DVD collection so far...rate and suggest some new buys

Hey guys! I jumped aboard the HD-DVD camp this past January when I purchased an XBOX360 add on. Currently its just connected VIA component to a $300 19" Insignia HDTV in my dorm room. Its not a bad little set up I have one quick question, my HDTV's native resolution is 1480x900 or something to that effect (I know for sure the second number is 900). It's capable of running both 720p and 1080i...which output setting would produce a better image for me? Currently I have it at 720p.

Anywho, my collection:

Ultimate Matrix Collection
King Kong
F&F: Tokyo Drift (Combo)
Children of Men (Combo)
Smokin' Aces (Combo)
Hot Fuzz (Combo)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Superman Returns (Combo)
Full Metal Jacket
Training Day
The Last Sammurai
300 (Combo)
Blood Diamond
The Departed (Combo)
Troy
Payback: Straight Up
The Italian Job
World Trade Center

Not going to make a difference on something that small.

Nice collection!

I'd recommend the following HD DVD titles:

12 Monkeys
Batman Begins
Blazing Saddles
Corpse Bride
The Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy
Deer Hunter
Dune
Flags of Our Fathers
The Fountain
The Frighteners
Mallrats
Mission Impossible 1-3
Out of Sight
Planet Earth
Sands of Iwo Jima
Serenity
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Superman
Superman II: Donner Cut
Untouchables

Also I'd advise to sell Troy and Full Metal Jacket because better versions will be out soon.

Well, the biggest gripe I have with the film is that its entire point is negated by the fact a person joining the military at the time depicted in the film was a voluntary action by that person. If there was a draft, then yes, the film's point would have had much more resonance.

Sacrificed a lot? People around you changed? You yourself changed? Seemed like a lot of work for seemingly nothing? YOU, and only YOU, did this and you should take responsibility for it because YOU volunteered. It's called assumed risk, deal with it.

The only problem is that the film didn't imply this, causing the film to limp back to a tiresome, trite point, "War, what is it good for?" It presented the military as a big grist mill serving little point in its existence.

Everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves.

Though I do hear the HD DVD is solid package overall.

I do not want to get into a political debate, but not everyone who enlists in the military wants to go to war. There are many, many reasons people join the military and going to war is probably the last thing most people who join want to do.

Sehnzeleid's post wasn't saying that people who join the military want to go to war, though some might. What he's saying is that the movie takes the volunteer aspect out of the war. The risk you take when signing up for the military is that you might have to go to war. It's the risk that policemen take when they join the academy, that they may get shot at, or that firemen take when they sign up, that they may have to run into a burning building. He's merely saying that you take responsiblity for your choices, which is what the character in the movie didn't, and the filmmakers didn't set it in a proper context outside Vietnam, which was an obvious comparison.

Just to clear the air here, when I suggest a movie it should be taken with a grain of hops, oats, and grain.

See, I liked that movie because it looked fantastic in HD to me. I don't get into this shit as much as you dudes. Hey, I wanna be wowed by the picture and action and special effects for the most part.

Very few movies take me into the jugemental realm of most here when it comes to direction and plot. Anyway, I don't even remember the gist of that movie but I did think it looked cool and that's why I suggested it.

Ok?

Good.

My HD DVD suggestions:

- Unleashed (Combo)
- Serenity
- The Bourne Identity & Supremacy
- Pitch Black & Riddick
- Shaun of the Dead
- Darkman (if you're a fan)
- The Deer Hunter
- Casino

- Sleepy Hollow
- We Were Soldiers
- Black Snake Moan
- The Warriors
- The Matador
