Or if you believe Ruined, you can wait till late 2008 when hd-dud wins the war and has bi-format love from Disney and Fox and you can order the hd-dud version.

That's not my theory. The HD DVD camp has been saying since the start (i.e. when I attended the "insider" mtg last year) that they believe they will be able to sell players to the mass market, which will in turn spur more studio support. We'll see in Q4 whether they are able to execute their plan or not, and whether they can reach their 1mil standalone mark.

Ruined, if HD-DVD fumbles Q4 like they have fumbled everything so far or if they just do NOTHING, which is what they are good at, will you still support the format in 2008?

First of all, I think HD DVD is doing darn well considering that it went in with less studio support and less CE support than the competitor - the industry clearly favored Blu-Ray. Still, HD DVD was able to carve out a good chunk of the market. The only mistakes I believe the HD DVD camp made were: A) The late launch of the HD-A2 in 2006 due to a defective chip, and B) the dearth of releases in Q1 2007. Otherwise, I think things are going as planned.

While HD DVD has an uphill battle, with the amount that has been put into the fight I don't see them giving up anytime soon. And, so long as they stick to their schedule and get the mass market-priced players out in Q4 2007, I think that HD DVD will continue to establish a base which cannot be ignored.

Will I support Blu-Ray if it becomes the dominant format? No, because of Blu-Ray BD+ Advanced Countermeasure DRM which essentially allows executables to be run without your permission. That is a security risk and far too much control for the studio to have. I'm not the only way that thinks this way, and I think a lot of the reasons HD DVD is still hanging around is because it is more consumer friendly. I would rather watch standard DVD or HD downloads than surrender control of my computer to Sony & the studios.

I never do quite understand this absolute argument I hear from anti-Sony consumers. You despise Sony and its DRM tactics* so much, that you're willing to sacrifice quality? Despite not seeing BD+ in action, and despite no CE or movie company claiming they will use BD+ to render BD players useless, you've already made up your mind that the technology is harmful to consumers that legally buy and watch movies. And for that reason, you're willing to drop the benefits of Blu-Ray and live with MPEG-2 compressed DVDs (a codec you despise), and horribly compressed downloadable content (despite VC-1's small footprint, HD content you download will never look as good, won't contain special features (something you want), nor be as convenient as an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc).

This isn't the rationale of someone who loves movies.

*btw, the rootkit you keep bringing up was never developed by Sony. Sony sued the company that did develop it, after it was found to be so nasty. Sony also replaced every CD sold for free. So, other than experimenting with ways to protect their content, how did they become more evil than any other company on this planet (including Microsoft, Universal, and Toshiba)?

Ruined

When HD DVD hit a million or more for end the year then all studio Blu-Ray exclusives going to support on HD DVD soon. HD DVD standard player is do so well over 100, 000 sales but Blu- Ray standard player is still not reach over 100,000. Soon HD DVD will cheap drop price this year. HD DVD will be better sales and more movies coming releasing over 700 in 2008. Am I right?

Blu-Ray: Less video quality, less sound formats, less functionality, more DRM, double the price. Blu-Ray is stupid name.

EVERY-SINGLE-STORE that I go into that sells DVDs has a truly MASSIVE selection of BD and pathetic, a PUH-THETIC, choice of HD-DVD. Is that planned? Or is that just plain stupid. HD-DVD RE-EE-EEALLY needs to step this up. Where are the ads? Where are they? I have not seen one HD-DVD ad over here ever.

And when you ask the store reps why they are not stocking dozens and dozens of the HD-DVD titles available they say that it's because 'Blu-Ray is more important now.' Or, for the not naive, the Sony Propaganda Machine.

HD-DVD is just handing to the BDA. Every week and every month comes with as little news as possible while BD soars.

Are you telling me that is PLANNED? Then they are doomed to failure.

OK everyone cut the Blu-ray Vs. HD-DVD battle. This was suppose to be about the movie and not a damn battle over formats. So get back on topic.

With that Themanroom.com has the cover art up for the Blu-ray disc

No whoosh! or swoop. Whatever it's called!

I think I might be in the minority, but why don't they use the posters for the cover art for the movie? Like the elegant, but simple poster of the rat's nose and whiskars would look nice.

If I were Disney Incredibles would be up on the release list instead of Cars. It skews a bit older in its audience and thus appeals more to the exact demo that buys HD gear. I know I'd buy it in a minute. Cars I'm on the fence about, as it's my least favortite Pixar film and I already have the dvd. Incredibles I'd pre-order without hesitation.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Incredibles" is in the lineup for the Christmas release. Nothing like having that ready for sell during the best sales time of the year.

I too would buy The Incredibles again on Blu-ray (LPCM track) and would make more sense to release with Ratatouille being that they are both Brad Bird films. Chances are you wont see it on BR until mid '08 to promote their new movie Wall-E with movie pass admission bonus

I was blown away by watching this Blu-Ray last night. Absolutley amazing. And the menus are very stylistic. Very happy with this purchase. A must own for every Blu-Ray owner.

Cars gives you a free die-cast blue car for just the cost of shipping and handling. I recommend these discs to everyone, they are phenomenal.

Even the bonus features showcase the PIXAR family which I just love listening to. They put real heart in their movies, and I think Ratatouille in particular will be a timeless classic.

Man i hate waiting. I came so close to buying these at my local Future Shop for roughly $58 Cnd. but with the strong Cnd dollar and the great Amazon.com deal i was able to hold back and get them for roughly $41Cnd. Now i wait for them to be delivered to me on Monday. Stupid no mail delivery on weekends. Plus the amazing looking Ratatouille trailer on Meet the Robinsons Blu-ray didn't help either

Even the menu system is impressive, it is in the drawn style of the closing credits. I have shown all my friends this disc, and they have fallen in love with it.

Samsung needs to get their dual format player out ASAP. After seeing Ratatouille in a DLP cinema, it was rough suffering through the film in standard definition last night. It’s a great DVD, but knowing how it should look was killing me.
