Non-Remastered High Definition DVD's
I am really interested in a list of DVD's that were dumped into the HD spectrum, but were not remastered or still have terrible tranfers. My focus is more so older titles since those tend to be the ones that would need remastering. What DVD's do you think are the worst examples of High Def content?

Are we talking about bad transfers or bad masters? That can be two very different things.
I think the prime example of a bad transfer would probably be The Fifth Element.

I saw that "In Good Company", "The Game", and "The Wedding Date" are titles to avoid from highdefdigest.

![]() In Good Company isn't that bad, or at least not in the same ballpark as the previous mentioned titles. Think sub780lime is referring to transfer quality. If not, Miami Vice ![]() |

Nacho Libre, Talladega Nights, T2 (BD) are 3 recent films that popped to my head first. T2 was a major disappointment for me, more so than TFE (first release).
I know it's an old title and I hate to list it because it's one of my favs, but the transfer on American Werewolf in London is really bad. There's no improvement at all over SD. I watched this on IFC last friday night and the PQ that was on IFC seemed to look better than the HD-DVD.

You cheated yourself truely. Though far from reference, it's ALOT better than the DVD, in color reproduction alone.

I was watching Fellowship of the Ring last night. And I have never seen a single HD title look as bad as watching even a reference DVD upconverted.
Maybe it is because my HDTV is a 1080p LCD, which struggles with anything nonHD, but still. The complete lack of detail on anything except for what is in the exact foreground is a staple of every DVD I have watched. The only HD-DVD disc that I have seen that I thought was terrible, is The Perfect Storm. There was almost no detail in any shots. It looked like every shot was in movement, meaning the screen could never quite get a hold of what each pixel was supposed to show. But eventually I got over it and watched the movie.

I guess i am interested in both, whether it still sucks because of the original master or it sucks worse because the transfer was so bad, I just want to know it sucks. ![]()

I still have yet to see it, but I did see it on display, and "Hitch" also looked really bad on bd. Ignore the TFE original, and just get the remaster, and you should have a good disc on your hands.
I might also add that even with the bad transfers, these titles do tend to have great sound via PCM, at least on the bd side, with the exception of "Total Recall", and "Stargate." I would also add "The Big Hit", and "Species" got a bad review.

You're not the only one. Highdefdigest gave it 4 stars on video quality, and 4.5 on audio. There was grain, but it wasn't intrusive at all. I thought it had a nice pop to it in many scenes.
