Well, I canceled my preorder of the box set from amazon. I decided to buy the 5 discs separately and have them in cases. If you do it from Warner's site, it actually comes out cheaper. You just need to use the 25% off coupon of NVBM to take the price of all 5 movies to $89.06. Just a consideration for those of you who won't want to have their movies in sleeves and don't need all the extras from the gift set.

Has there been any inkling that the US version Goblet of Fire will have a different transfer than the UK version?

I can't imagine it would. The film's only a couple of years old after all. I've seen the UK disc and it looks pretty damn good.

HD DVD and Blu-Ray reviews for OOTP from HDD. Solid disc! I personally thought the film was higher than 3/5 stars but oh well. We all have different opinions.

I'm still trying to get me IME to work on my UK disc. Can't really comment on that yet, but everything else is flawless!

Actually, it's CDO, which is the same as OCD, but in alphabetical order, as it should be

btw, I just noticed that CC is selling the HD-DVD box set for $149.99 and BB is selling it for $109.99.

It is actually cheaper to get the movies outside of the box set, so I will be getting the Blu-Rays that way.

Yep. Warner must have fixed their shipping issues, because I'll actually be getting my 5 HP movies tomorrow.

I will probably pick this up tonight, I haven't bought a movie (DVD or HD) in quite a while.

I picked up Order of the Phoenix and Prisoner of Akerdijibijidan or whatever it is. Best Buy had the HD-DVD box set for 99 bucks, in case anyone is interested.

I didn’t notice it when a first unwrapped the five films, but my Order of the Phoenix case has an unpainted HD DVD logo. All the others are fine, but OOTP is horribly unfinished.

My OCD (sorry, CDO) can’t take it.

I got to ask if anyone who bought the set got the right movies but one was subbed for the wrong format. Over on the AVS Forum a few who bought the Blu-ray set found an HD-DVD copy for one of the films.

Could this be a sign of things to come

The first film is a vast improvement over the DVD. Video could still use a little work, but the TrueHD is fantastic!

Same here. Although it still says HD DVD right on the top of the cover art.

Is Goblet of Fire look just as the UK import?

Man, these transfers are just gorgeous, and the TrueHD tracks continue to impress (the Quidditch scene in Chamber of Secrets is stellar).

I just finished Prisoner of Azkaban and the difference between this and standard-def is breathtaking. Cuarón's composition is beautifully rendered and Williams' wonderfully macabre score sounds great.

I was just going to BD the new film, but you guys make me want to get them all... especially since the newest was the worst of the series, IMO.

It's the same disc, as far as I could tell. The GOF disc is the only one of the 5 films that begins with the old "welcome to HD DVD" intro video, so I'm assuming it's the old encode since the UK one has that as well.

I got mine for X-Mas and all 5 were BR discs.

On a side note, I brought my PS3 with me when I went to CT for the holidays. My friends just got a 42" Panasonic a few months back and wanted to show them what 'real' HD looks like. (They have a plan old D* TV receiver hooked up with some composite cords. And I had to get them an upconverting player in November since they had no idea what they were doing.) Anyway, I hooked up my PS3 and used OotP as demo material. Awesome. I did a little demo about 4 times and each person was amazed.

Granted I know about 500 times more than they do, but still, it was great. I got some a few J6Ps on BR's side.

How come no one mentioned that most of the special features for this are in HD on BD but SD on HD DVD? Seems like a MAJOR selling point for BD's extra space, yet no one mentions it.

Anyway... watched OotP tonight on my new tele and PQ was amazing... stunning... a revelation.

I mentioned it in a thread here somewhere when I said I was considering getting both versions so I'd have the extras in HD and the interactive features as well. Though I ended up deciding the interactive stuff wasn't that important and not worth spending extra money on.

I actually didn't realize that. Maybe I will have to purchase the remainder of the series in BD

The extras are in HD on BR? Didn't see them. Or maybe I thought they were in SD so I just didn't try and look.

I only thought the only difference between the 2 formats was BD had more audio & subtitle options.

Is every SF on the BD in HD or just a few special features? I got the box set & regret getting it from day 1. Everytime I open the box every disc makes a run for it. The first 2 are in jewel size cases while the rest are in DVD size cases. Also NO coverart. yayyyy. lame.
