BD+ sold to Macrovision.

Wow, BD+ is now officially sold for 45 million, reportedly a fraction of what it cost to develop. The backers and former co-owners of this technology - Sony, Panasonic, and Fox - must have decided that BD+ is not going to generate the revenue they expected on BD. Using BD+ on a disc, much like using AACS, requires a fee. In order to use BD+, you must also use AACS. So a studio choosing to use BD+ must use (and pay for) both technologies together. If BD+ was going to be the "next big thing" in DRM, IMO it would have sold for a lot more than 45mil because it sets up recurring revenues with every disc sold that uses it; all three of the above corporations would have profitted from it for the rest of BD's existance assuming BD+ remains a player in that time. As it has already been hacked, maybe this is why the three saw fit to sell it - and perhaps Macrovision liked a part of the technology or feels they could use part of the technology in their future DRM products; its probably important they purchase this as Macrovision's old analog technologies are getting more obsolete as time goes by. Thoughts? Personally I'm a bit saddened that this overly intrusive DRM that condones the running of executables will find its way into other products than BD. I will have to stay up to date on where Macrovision licenses this technology and avoid those products.
