All of the below is estimated what I actually spent, not MSRP which of course would be much more across the board.

Software - $4500 (All HD DVD; estimate based on amazon prices, most of the time 40% off)
HDTV or Projector - $1900 (Sony KDS-60A3000 - in general wasn't happy with one I had previously, though)
Receiver - $1500 (Integra DTC-9.8 - Pre/Pro in my case, but I needed a new one anyway)
Cables - $45 (Two Monoprice HDMI 1.3-certified cables)
HD players - $1000 (In reverse order of purchase - Toshiba HD-A35 [main player]; XBOX 360 HDAO [hooked to PC]; Toshiba HD-A1 [sold for $120])
BD players - $0
Combo players - $0

Cables: $120 (5.1 analog set)
HD players (Add-on yep): $500
BD players (PS3 yep): $500
Combo players: $0.

And I thought DVD was expensive, when I upgraded back then...

(Does NOT include Government's share, taxes.)

Software: $4,500+ High-Def 126. It should be more since I sold like 20+ HD DVD's (Combo's & Blind Buy's).

HDTV: $1,750 (SHARP 37" LC-37D90U 1080p LCD)
Receiver: $1,000+ Yamaha HTR-6190B (aka RX-V1800, can't find up here).

Cables: $80 (Monoprice & Belkin 1.3)

HD DVD: $850 Toshiba HD-XA2 (upgraded from HD-A1)
Blu-ray Disc: $500 Panasonic DMP-BD30K (upgraded from PS3/60GB).

$200 for HD player and 10 free movies (so far).

That's it, everything else was already here previously for HD DVDO unit and DVD, LD formats.

Well my BD player came "free" with my PS3... and I only paid $170 for my HD DVD add-on.

As for software, I have about 30 titles, times like, $20 a piece, equals $600.

And I guess that's it.

Thats it. Thats all ya got?

The point is to "share" with others your "support" towards these new formats with figures. How much have you contributed to your sig sorta speak.

What does the amount of money you’ve spent have to do with your level of support? I’m sure there are several members here who wholeheartedly support HD or BD, yet can’t spend the kind of money that some of us do.

What does this show that a simple "which format do you support" poll does not?

Sorry, it just strikes me as a fairly self-serving thread.

And is this supposed to be for currently owned hardware, or all that I've bought for HDTV? Currently:

Display: $1050 (Sony AW15 projector)
Software: Lets call it an average $20 per movie(since some were less, some were more). With 187 titles, that $3,740.
Reciever: $800
Cables: $100 (3 HDMI and one component cable)
HD-DVD: $500
Blu Ray: $500

For a total of $6690. Soon I'll have a $4000 projector, so $9990 will be more like it soon.

I don't think its always a good thing to show you spent a lot of money on this sort of thing. Many would consider it a giant waste of money. I'm not sure I'm exactly proud of the amount I've spent, but hey you only live once...

I agree completelly. I read this thread and think, wow some of these guys have either super jobs, no real family to support, are out of control and buy crap just to buy crap, etc. I realize that none of that is probably true, but it is dumb to use words support and tie to money spent. I have onlya 99 dollar player and three movies. Some would say, boy this guys doesnt give a crap, which is of course wrong

Lots of assumptions here for a fairly basic thread.

Why not just post,

I am not good at math.

Well, I am not at liberty to discuss what I paid for most of my gear since I got a pretty good deal on most of it. At least, not openly.

But to say someone that has "only" spent X dollars on HD is not a real supporter is kinda, well I dunno about self serving, but to me is kind of demeaning. Like those that say ONLY 1080P is real HD. I watched some of the Seahawks game yestereday on a 720P projection system, and it looked pretty damn good.

So, sorry, no numbers from me

I could care less if someone knows how much I spent or whether posting it in this thread has a true purpose, so here goes:

Hardware: $2700 (1080p TV, HDMI Receiver, HDAO, and HD-A2)
Software: $500 (Very rough estimates since I just used $25, but may havegotten others for free or at much better deals).

Derb, I did notice you didn't post your totals???

I dunno where the confusion of that sentiment came aboot. If ya spent $99 on a player & 1 movie, so be it. You are still a supporter in my opinion & I nor anyone should run ya down because of it. We've had dozens of Which format are you supporting threads in the past but never a thread about how much cash directly feeds your HD habit. Sure people own HDTVs & no HD players & these are people I would refer to as non-supporters. For the rest of us, I ask did these HD formats make ya keep your old gear, same cables etc etc or did you have to / want to spend more money to enjoy the best these formats have to offer?

I wanted to create a NON biased HD thread because there has been nothing much of late on this forum other than pissing matches of disc sales figures, HD DVD rocks, Blu-Ray sucks, VC-1 rocks, AVC sucks & vise versa etc etc. So the point of this thread is to share with others... how has HD influenced your home theater in terms of upgrades? How much money have you shelled out on HD software?

For me the switch from SD to HD was quite drastic. I admit the costs of hardware & software almost put me in a hole at 1 point. Here goes,

Display: $3,800
Software: $18,200
Reciever(s): $1,400
Cables: $600
HD-DVD players: $2,700
Blu Ray player: $700

I only updated my projector to go HD. This one is a "disposable" one, as I intend to buy a better one in a year or so when the "good stuff" is available. I think "good" projectors are just now getting to market.

So I'm about $3k into hardware right now.
I own about 50 HD-DVDs I guess. So maybe $1200.

However I just moved and my new theater room is a major different beast. The dedicated room is 18' x 27' and I'm building the entire thing out from scratch. Right now I'm down to the bare frame as I'm re-doing all the drywall, electrical and so-forth. I'll probably end up spending about $40k on it in the next few months. All the new equipment will obviously be based on future HD standards in mind.

I won't comment on Derb's numbers, but I don’t think anyone should feel embarrassed for spending money on something they enjoy. Unless, of course, your kids are starving or you're ridiculously deep in debt.

I just see no reason to flaunt dollar amounts.
