Blu-ray Brings Blogging To HD

Quote:
Promising to push the limits of next-gen interactivity, Lionsgate says its January Blu-ray release of 'Saw IV' will allow consumers to blog about the flick directly from a web-connected Blu-ray player.

Dubbed "MoLog" (short for Movie Blog), Lionsgate tells us that the new feature will enable consumers to create and share their own added value content via blog entries.

'Saw IV' is the second announced Blu-ray title from Lionsgate to include web-connected features. Last week at the Web 2.0 conference in Los Angeles, it was revealed that the studio plans to include a network-connected game on its Jan 1 release of 'War,' which Lionsgate says will allow fans to play each other online.

At press time, it still wasn't clear whether there would be any Blu-ray players compatible with the new technology at launch. Although studio officials have hinted that an upcoming firmware update for the PS3 will unlock web-enabled features such as these, Sony has yet to confirm these reports, and no manufacturer has provided a timetable for the first true BD-Live hardware.

MoLog? They couldn't come up with a better name than that?

Either way, it sounds like its a PS3 thing first, then maybe standalones. But how many people connect their standalones to the internet?

I dunno..seems like all this interactive stuff is aimed at folks much younger than me.

I can’t imagine ever wanting to read blogs like this, especially with films like Saw.

I don't care about web enabled features on either format, like a couple years from now all this stuff will still be supported anyway, or anyone will even care then. Especially when the Internet is so freakin' influential and everywhere. It's not like we can't do 98% of what web-enabed HDM can do countless other places quicker and easier being on a PC on the actual Internet.

Blogs? Forums? Buyin' shit? Hell, I'm doing all that now in mere seconds.

Include it all on the disc or not at all.

Though a downloadable subtitle database would be FAR more useful than practically anything else they could come up with. God forbid they provide that though.

I agree. "Web enabled" features seem like a marketing gimmick more than a useful feature. If you can't put it on a disc, don't bother. Most people won't go out of their way to connect their player for minor crap like this.

I'd prefer to have,

The film
The Video
The Audio

Everything else is crap. Waste of space, waste of discs, & in some cases waste of potential great video & audio quality.
