HD Owners - What now?
Even after hearing about the news with Warner, I opted to buy Zodiac on HD. I figure that I'll get plenty of good viewings out of it before I ever buy a Blu-Ray player, and it's not like I can't still watch it afterwards.
Still, I don't plan on buying any HDs for the most part. I might still get some combo discs of new releases, like for Beowulf, but I won't buy any catalog titles. What about the rest of you?

My position is pretty clear. Till the Region Coding and BD+ is gone, and Blu Ray has a finalized spec, I will not be giving a single penny to Blu Ray.
I will continue to support HD DVD as much as I can, and will enjoy my library till the next format comes along, if I have to.j

I doubt I will ever buy another HD DVD... If Uni or Paramount make it absolutely clear somehow that they will not switch this year, then maybe I would buy some huge release from them...
Really though, it would take a miracle. I want to do everything I can to support the one clear new format: BD. |

I assume you mean hd-dvd owners and where it says HD in the questions I should substitute hd-dvd? Because both blu-ray and hd-dvd are HD discs. You need a selection for "I will only buy hd-dvds of titles I absolutely have to have right away." For me, that was The Pianist. After that, there's nothing on the hd-dvd release schedule so far I have to have. But never say never. If something really good came out hd-dvd only I'd probably buy it.

Oh and I'm Hungry Like the Wolf. You can select both options ![]()

It's really too soon for this. I answered only new releases will be bought. However, if Universal and Paramount fold within a month, then nothing till they start Blu Ray. Luckily there is nothing coming exclusively to HD-DVD currently schedules that I want... well maybe that German T2 HD-DVD set.

Anything available on both I will get the blu-ray now without hesitation. I will still pick up HD-DVDs if I can get them on the cheap. I plan on keeping my player and current collection and hopefully can get quite a few years worth of enjoyment out of them.

I stopped buying HD DVDs and sold most of mine; only kept a core collection of 10-20 movies that I REALLY like to hold me over until the Panasonic DMP-BD50 is available.
I will pick up BDs to replace them when there are 50% off sales/BOGOs. My HD-A35 broke and could not repaired, so Toshiba is now sending me a new one. Not sure what I'm going to do with that. Keeping my HDAO for sure, because it is an awesomely flexible piece of gear.

To the question of the thread, I've pretty much stopped buying hd-dvd's now. Only thing left on the release schedule I might still pick up is Star Trek Season 2. I'm sure they'll release it on blu-ray one of these days, but I want to grab it while I can still get a combo version with the dvd as well. |

Yes. They still need J6P to buy in and that is not going to happen with discs priced $25-$35 discs regularly.

Not slowing down my purchases, in fact I'm buying more, what with Amazon's sales and people selling their collection at bargin prices (got Mission impossible box set for £25, normal UK price is £40-45) because they feel the need to conform with the Blu ray fanboys (how sad they are for giving in so easily)

I will still buy them since i don't prefer HD-DVD over Blu or viceversa (except that my universal remote will control my HD-DVD player and my not my Blu)

I'll be buying Blu-ray instead, where given a choice. Otherwise I'll buy HD-DVD. It's not like the $20 disc isn't going to play ever again.

I know a lot of you will probably disagree with my opinion, but from the beginning I have felt that HD on disc was going to be a much harder sale than dvd ever was. DVD was a revolution from what people had before, vhs On VHS it was almost impossible to buy new stuff at reasonable prices. Going from tape to disc is huge. This is more like evolution, not revolution People see it as still dvd, just higher priced.
The other thing that i see is that the majority of blu ray players are ps3, and that may win them the war, but it also means that they have a very small percent of people, gamers, a limited demographic. Whereas HD DVD had all of its sales to stand alone players I am not moving to blu anytime soon |

Rather, I am have decent skill at eBaying. I bought 99% of my HD DVDs at 40% off MSRP. Looking at the market, by selling over this week I have gotten between ~40-60% of the MSRP. That does two things for me. First, I don't lose that much moneywise - maybe like $3-$7 a movie off what I paid for it new? (in a few cases I actually made money!) Second, I get rid of a lot of shite I shouldn't have bought in the first place. Third, it saves having to maintain an HD DVD player down the road for what was a massive collection of movies. Now I am not "replacing" my collection. Meaning I'm not going to go and rebuy everything off the bat. I will buy a lot of stuff when it is much cheaper/$10-$15, but I am in no rush to do so. I also will be more careful the second go around - no more buying crap I don't even like that much just because its in HD. Also, I am keeping around 20 or so movies that I *really* enjoy. Ones that I will watch many times. Stuff like 2001, Fast Times, The Fountain, etc. These are the ones that are truly worth owning in the first place. I may have gotten too caught up having fun with the war than having fun watching the movies!

I knew this would happened.
So I'm just going to continue buying HD DVD & Blu-ray. I lost (acted too quickly) selling my 600+ DVD's and who knows, Sony/BD might fail against DVD If that happens, at least I'll have one of the best Upconverting players...Toshiba HD-XA2. ![]()
