I'm not hanging on to anything. I sold my hd dvds and 360 add on. I'm just refusing to sink money into a broken technology. Maybe a couple years the BR conglomerate will pull there collective heads out of there asses and say "hey maybe we should get some players on the market that work with all our software... you know like hd dvd and standard dvd did."

Hmmm ya think?

Acording to High Def Digest the player sales were due to free players given to those that bought new HDTVs.

Give the discs out at half price, and give the HW away...Good move by the BDA

Hmm...subsidising revenue to gain market penetration...sounds like the basis for Toshiba's business plan for HDDVD...

...only it's seems to be working better for the BDA...after all, the BDA is the one with more studio support and a larger portion of the HDM sales market.

It's smart. It won the war for Sony AND sets them up to make a killing in licensing.

You just have to wonder how much Sony (BDA) can maintain, with the somewhat small revenue coming in. They paid Warner and Fox a huge amount, they have been subsidizing BOGOs forever, now flat out giving away players and discs. Don't get me wrong, it's understandable strategy, but how long can they keep this up without more support from the current DVD base?

I really don't know how long they can keep it up, but I'd be willing to bet they could do it for years. It's more of an issue of how long stockholders will be willing to subsidize BD purchasers. Personally I believe they'll stop once BD hits critical mass. That day will occur when HD DVD is totally gone and BD is growing without massive infusions of advertising and subsidies.

Even if they those two points aren't true, they have been absorbing authoring costs, so that will be a big chunk switched over to the individual studios. Sure, they had to eat a lot of cost up front, but look what it did for them. They have essentially one this war. Spend now, make it up later.

I understand and agree 100%. I just dont like seeing all this "paid off" crap when we have no proof of it. Both camps are equally guilty of this, and again, no one knows anything for certain.
