best blu ray titles for a limited budget

Ok, going ot order some blu. I have about 300 to spend. I am most interested in superhero, action, and sci fi. Those of you who know, what titles have the most and best improvement. I don't want to rebuy most of my stuff, but want to get my favorites. Problem is that is too much cash. What is the best of the best. Pissed that they dont sell spdermans separately

In other words, this one will definitely see a remaster sooner rather than later on Blu-ray with the HD DVD's A/V and features. So skip it for now.

Matrix will also be on Blu-ray with all the same features (likely) by the end of the year according to Warner, just as an FYI. Might be worth waiting on that one also.

Blade Runner 5-disc is a MUST HAVE, though

I see you got Halloween.

Dump it, the transfer sucks. Colors are completely off. The limited edition DVD transfer of Halloween smokes it. In fact, dump all of the Starz/Anchor Bay titles, they all have reject masters with screwed up colors and DNR overused to the point of disgust.

Next, dump Terminator 2. A mediocre MPEG2 transfer and its not even the director's cut. Both import HD DVD editions far outpaces it. Wait for the inevitable double dip that will have all of the editions, VC-1/AVC and lossless sound plus more extras.

I'd also say to wait on Matrix for the BD version... And doesn't Ghost Rider completely blow ass as a movie?

Anyway, dump those four and you've got your $100. Unless you hate it, I'd also get Blade Runner 5-disc edition.

I'd actually watch them on your set-up before passing such harsh judgement to those interested. I've watched all but Bewolf & everyone is an improvement over the DVD as well as AUDIO.

I've already seen direct screencaps of the ab/starz BDs. Watching it on my setup isn't going to fix the mangled masters they were taken from. My setup isn't going to put the blue filter back in Halloween nor is it going to make Bruce Campbell look less like DNR'd silly putty in ED2.

You might have had the previous Divimax DVDs - which these BDs may have been an improvement over - but I have the Elite & THX DVDs which they can't touch.

People on AVS are selling Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs pretty cheap (saves you a couple of bucks in most cases).

You can easily find any of those titles on the other site for less than buying on Amazon or BB...

Ruined, I really think you should at least rent Halloween and watch it before you trash it. It is not a terrible transfer at all. If you don't mind the blue push that has become Carpenter canon now, the movie has never looked better on disc.

jbat31, I suggest you keep it and see for yourself. If you totally hate it, I'm sure you can trade or sell it later on. I happen to think it was good.

Again, from the screencaps it is obvious that the color balance is wrong and tweaked beyond original intention. The disc may have more detail or have better grain structure, but who cares when one of the creepiest parts of the movies is done totally wrong?

I feel it would be an unsmart move to buy the disc, especially given Anchor Bay's history... How many times did they release Halloween on DVD again? 10 times? 15 times? There is no doubt it will be revisited, and it may be as soon as in 6 months given AB's history. Hopefully next time they will get it right.

I have seen it, and everyone else can see the BD's incorrect color timing on numerous scenes right here:
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/...ml#post3238383
(post #9)

The Anchor Bay Blu-ray drops the blue tint of the night scenes (just as the marred Halloween Divimax DVD did) so that it can look more "clean" at the expense of having the color timing completely wrong. IMO, this is just as bad as Pan & Scan, except here they are altering the artists original intentions signficantly so it has more "pop".

The Dean Cundey-approved THX DVD looks lightyears better than the BD, and the DVD more closely represents the intention of the filmmakers who actually had a hand in making it.

You've seen the BR disk Halloween? Not just screen grabs and such? You have actually sat down and viewed the movie yourself on your own set up? I cant see how anyone can form an opinion on how something looks without first seeing it on their own set up.
I have watched it on my set up, and honestly it is no where near as bad as you are saying, not even close.
