The Weight of Blu-ray

This may sound a bit crazy, but the BD's I've gotten from Blockbuster Online feel lighter than the ones I buy in-store. I’ve yet to compare a disc to one I already own (mainly because I’d feel foolish), so I don’t know if it's just a fluke with the ones I’ve rented. But, most of the discs I’ve gotten have felt lighter (cheaper) than a normal BD.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I've rented a couple of blu rays from BB now and they felt damn heavy for a disc. I haven't bought any yet, so I cant compare.

I assumed they were heavier because of the protective, hard plastic they are made out of. Someone had picked up Hitman with peanut butter fingers and it wiped right off without any major scratching to the surface.

are Blu Rays typically heavier or lighter than a DVD?

BD-25's weigh less than BD-50's

Here is some wild speculation. Many complained about rent-via-mail discs cracking (perhaps due to mail sorting machines, etc). That might be because of the protective layer. Maybe these are special ones that don't have it?

That's crazy though. If anything you'd want rental discs to have more protection, not less, considering what people tend to do with them.
Don't know about blockbuster, but I haven't notice any difference between Netflix blu-ray discs and purchased ones.
